Life & Leisure Oil Painting for Beginners Learn fundamental oil painting techniques used for centuries since the development of the medium. Working from a still-life, you will develop a painting in stages and layers. During this process, various painting techniques will be introduced such as imprimatura, scumbling, glazing, and others. Each class begins with a brief description of the particular technique as well as a demonstration by the instructor. Explore important painting techniques, such as: color mixing, color value, composition, glazing, brushwork, paint application, texture, and more. You will spend the majority of the class painting, during which the instructor will offer help and critique. This class will help you to express yourself with oils whether you want to paint still life, landscape, abstraction, or whatever inspires you most. Canvas and paints provided. Watercolor Painting for Beginners Would you like to paint in watercolor but don’t know where to start? In this class, you will learn basic watercolor techniques that will help you create your own painting of still life. In this three session class, we’ll cover color mixing, application techniques and fun watercolor effects. You’ll receive personal guidance from a local artist, who exhibits and sells her artwork, to help you on your way to becoming a watercolor painter. Tuition includes a watercolor paint set with brushes to take home and water color paper for class. Children in the Middle is a four-hour, court-ordered seminar providing education and affirmation for parents, with the primary focus on children’s needs. Topics include: parenting skills for divorcing parents, a child’s needs and survival techniques, health versus problematic reactions of most kids, age specific needs of your children, and identifying how your child feels. The restoration of the bee population in the United States will not be a few companies with millions of bee hives, instead it will be millions of people having one or two hives in their backyards. Join this class and learn how you can be part of the solution. In this class, you will learn how to set up your hive the correct way. Discover the protective bee equipment, hive components, and assembly. Understand the difference between the bees and why you need to know. Learn honey bee biology and class system, as well as colony management, pest management, and honey production. Also, you will be able to diagnose the signs and symptoms of viruses and colony collapse disorder and what you can do to prevent it. You will also have the opportunity to join a beekeeping club at the Cedar Valley Arboretum. This class meets every other week.
