Minecraft Modders (ages

Minecraft Modders (ages 11-14) Use your favorite game to learn the basics of modding and foundations of programming. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods! Introductory coding will also be taught through a simulated environment inspired by Minecraft. Student projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. To access their project at home students must own a PC/MAC version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. In this cutting edge camp, you will learn the foundations of VR design by creating your own virtual worlds, exploring simulated environments, and crafting memorable 3D experiences. At the end of the week, take home your first cardboard VR headset to show friends and family the new worlds you created. VR projects can be viewed on a website or a mobile device. Students do not need a mobile device to take the camp, but to use the VR headset at home a camper will need access to an Android or Apple mobile device. Students will work in pairs or teams and VR Games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. ADULT LANGUAGE/HIGH SCHOOL COMPLETION ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING (ELL) HIGH SCHOOL COMPLETION PREPARATION English language instruction is offered to assist individuals of limited English proficiency to achieve competence in the English language. Students are required to register in person and take an entry assessment to determine the appropriate class level. ELL classes are available in seven different levels. Fall registration and testing will be held in July at the Hawkeye Metro Center, 844 West 4th St., Waterloo. Classes are scheduled to be held in the new downtown location on Jefferson Street. Punctual and regular attendance is absolutely necessary for success. Students, please be on time and attend class every day! The FLP provides programming for parents who seek to strengthen their role as their child’s first teacher as well as free children’s books and materials. The program also provides one-on-one assistance to parents interested in transferring to college credit coursework. Call 319-234-5745 for more information. The High School Completion Program is free and offers standards-based instruction to prepare students for successful completion of the HiSET* test and to improve their basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. In addition, digital literacy, financial literacy, and transition to college assistance are components of the program. Punctual and regular attendance is necessary for success. A minimum of five hours a week of at-home online studying is required. HiSET* Testing – $50 Testing is by appointment three times per week for those who qualify. *In 2014, the State of Iowa adopted the High School Equivalency Test (HiSet) as the exam that students take to earn a high school equivalency diploma. High School Courses – $100 Take high school courses that transfer to high school or apply toward a Hawkeye Community College Adult High School Diploma. High School Correspondence Courses – $120 High school correspondence courses are available only to students outside the metro area.
