MIRANI ELECTORATE NEWS MP Stephen Andrew April 2018 Veg Management Amendments Strongly Opposed by Mirani MP Mirani MP Stephen Andrew has strongly opposed all proposed changes outlined in the Vegetation management and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2018 as stated in his submission to the State Development, Natural Resources and Agricultural Industry Development Committee. The proposed changes to the Bill will cripple farmers, restricting their long term planning and equity in their own business. The proposed changes to the Queensland State Government Vegetation Management framework will prevent farmers throughout the state from developing agriculture projects. The Mirani Electorate is a diverse electorate, made up of many industries that support the economic growth of the region. The amendments proposed will be to the detriment of already struggling agricultural industries and the impact will be felt all the way back to the consumer. Mr. Andrew is concerned that the implications of such amendments may have fatal consequences for those on the land. “The current laws and political climate of Agricultural Industry in Australia has already contributed to depression and suicide rate rises in these regional areas. The complications that will come for farmers with this Bill are grossly overlooked and not taken into consideration” Mr Andrew said. The State Development, Natural Resources and Agricultural Industries Development Committee has received 14,000 submissions, seven times the predicted amount of 2000. From the Member “I would like to take this time to thank all of the constituents in the Mirani Electorate for their unwavering support, and for bringing the issues that they feel need to be addressed to my attention. The best way that I can help the Electorate is to hear from you, so if you have any concerns, issues or would like to have a chat my office is always open. Please feel free to drop by, call or email the Mirani Electorate Office and keep up to date with my Facebook page for all the latest information.”
