CAESARSTONE x SNARKITECTURE:
Altered States
Caesarstone returns to Milan with its annual designer
collaboration. Set in the faded grandeur of
Palazzo dell’Ufficio Elettorale di Porta Romana -
open to the public for the first time during Fuorisalone
- the immersive installation sees New
York-based practice Snarkitecture explore the
future of the kitchen island. Water is used as the
most important “ingredient”, drawing inspiration
from its changing states in nature (glacier, river,
geyser) and in the kitchen (ice, water, steam).

Surface x David Rockwell:
The Diner
American design magazine Surface is celebrating
its 25th anniversary in style, with an iconic diner
by architect David Rockwell. To honour American
design, it will take visitors on a roadtrip
through four distinct environments, offering
fresh coffee and homestyle pie, or milkshakes
and grilled cheese sandwiches in areas inspired
by Airstream trailers and East Coast luncheonettes.
At night, the space will transform into a
nightclub featuring performances and parties.

Pierre frey x Fabrica:
Paradigm
This is the first time in its 83 year history that
family-owned textile company La Maison Pierre
Frey will participate in the Milan Design Week.
For this occasion, it will present an exhibition
by Sam Baron and the designers of Fabrica,
exploring the blurring boundaries between the
virtual and physical, between the object and its
representation within the contemporary design
process.

Ventura Future
Ventura Future is a brand new event by Ventura
Projects, which - as the name indicates - will
focus on designers’ visions of the future. It will
also be the occasion to see what goes on inside
the walls of design schools, with the projects of
students from almost 20 academies featured in a
dedicated show, The design school as…

Soundscape
AGC Asahi Glass will debut its ground-breaking,
sound-generating glass in Milan, with an
immersive installation by up-and-coming Japanese
architect Motosuke Mandai. With a special
intermediary layer that mitigates the inherent
resonance characteristics of glass, AGC’s material
produces clear, steady sounds ranging from
high to low, throughout the spectrum of audio
frequencies.

Google Softwear
For its very first time in Milan, Google is presenting
an exhibition curated by trend forecaster
Li Edelkoort. Softwear will explore the seamless
integration of hardware products within the
everyday, driving on the trend that sees technology
becoming increasingly softer and warmer.
The multi-room installation will include tactile
textiles by Kiki van Eijk, gently bringing together
the notions of craft and technology.

Vegan Design
Curated by Maria Cristina Didero, Vegan Design
– or the Art of Reduction, will showcase objects
by Israeli designer Erez Nevi Pana. Each one is
made in compliance with the rules of a specific
ethical position. The question behind the exhibition
is simple: is it possible to conceive design
without using any kind of material derived from
animals? No wool, no leather, and no industrial
glues or resin either. It seems the answer is yes…

Cristina Celestino :
Tram Corallo
A modern reinterpretation of the historic streetcar
will traverse the Brera district once more! In
partnership with textile house Rubelli, Cristina
Celestino has designed a nostalgic travelling
salon inside an authentic 1928 tram. The back
of the carriage will feature an intimate screening
room where visitors, seated comfortably on ottomans,
can view footage of Milan and its urban
landscapes. A fun way to travel in space and time
that takes approximately 20 minutes.

Calico Wallpaper x Lindsey Adelman
Studio : Beyond the Deep
An exciting partnership between Calico wallpaper
and lighting designer Lindsey Adelman
- both keen to put the boundaries between art
and design to the test - sees them experiment
with the chemical reactions of salt and ammonia.
Combined with watercolour painting, the
corrosive ingredients make for dreamy murals;
applied to brass hardware, they add a mesmerising
verdigris finish to lighting products. Expect to
be immersed in an aquatic world of alchemy and
decay.

COS x Philip K Smith III:
Open Sky
For its seventh year in Milan, COS has partnered
with American artist Phillip K. Smith III, for a
large scale installation that succeeds in pulling
the sky to the ground. Through reflective surfaces,
the interaction between architecture and
nature will be made physical, and the blue Milan
sky will appear within reach.

Living Nature.
La Natura dell’Abitare
Salone del Mobile has commissioned a garden
pavilion where the four seasons will be able to coexist

3d Housing 05
Several architectural practices have partnered to
3D print a one-bedroom house in the centre of
the Piazza Cesare Beccaria. Entirely printed from
concrete, the 100 square-meter space will contain
four rooms: a living space, a bedroom, a kitchen
and a bathroom, and will be a life-size illustration
of how housing design can evolve in the very
near future.

Mini Living x Studiomama:
Built by All
For this year’s exhibit, Mini Living has teamed
up with architectural practice Studiomama to
present a new living concept that encourages
engagement and participation. Visitors’ individual
needs and ideas become the centre of the
architectural process, which enables them to
identify more closely with their homes and cities.
The Mini Living Factory of Ideas’ workshop gives
them the opportunity to share their visions for
the living spaces of the future.
