StablePAVE HD
Fully interlocking heavy duty gravel grid
Stable
PAVE HD
WHAT IS IT?
StablePAVE HD is a purpose designed, fully
interlocking honeycomb structure for the
stabilisation, containment and reinforcement
of natural gravel surfaces. It is the most
robust of the StablePAVE product group
and can be used in all light vehicular and
pedestrian applications, including constant
access commercial or municipal car parking.
StablePAVE HD is produced in panels of
1.200 x 0.800 mtr x 38 mm deep. (0.96 sq.
mtr), complete with a double strength weed
suppressant membrane attached to the
base. The robust interlocking mechanism
gives exceptional stability with lateral load
resistance, especially beneficial where
heavier traffic applications are anticipated.
LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT
(Breeam compatibility):
StablePAVE HD is light grey in colour offering
minimal visual impact and is manufactured
from specially selected, premium quality virgin
and re-cycled raw material. The product can
be fully re-cycled in itself, which leads to an
ultra-low carbon footprint in production, use
and disposal.
When used with traditional local, natural
aggregates, the StablePAVE HD system
offers a significant contribution to beneficial
BREEAM ratings in the landscaping and
external works around your building. The
contribution can be further enhanced by
the utilisation of re-cycled decorative
aggregates.
WHAT DOES IT DO?
StablePAVE HD provides a free draining
permeable paving layer. The reinforcing
structure prevents rutting, restricts gravel
migration and can withstand a compressive
loading of over 280 tonnes/sq. mtr. The
design criteria is to accommodate heavier
vehicles up to and including emergency and
utility access.
Addition lateral load resistance from the
interlocking design makes StablePAVE HD
particularly suitable for heavy small wheeled
maintenance or utility plant, horse boxes
and other high point loading wheeled
vehicles.
SUDS (Sustainable Drainage):
Even with a traditional compacted sub base
the system creates a free draining,
permeable paving layer which virtually
eliminates surface water run-off. This
substantially reduces demand on surface
water drainage capacity.
StablePAVE HD is eminently suitable for
use in conjunction with fully permeable sub
base construction and over water harvesting
installations.
PRODUCTIVITY:
The system is fast and easy to install, which is a major cost consideration, when compared to the alternatives.
Installation rates of up to 250 sq. metres per day with a single small crew are achievable, making StablePAVE HD
a very economical paving selection.

surface drainage capacity necessitates
formal planning approval in most parts of
the UK. StablePATH ECO addresses those
issues entirely, so does not need such
approvals.
The system can be used as part of a fully
permeable sub base construction or water
harvesting applications.
*Also available in translucent white, at extra cost.

Stable
GRASS MAXI
WHAT IS IT?
StableGRASS MAXI is a uniquely large grass
grid for the reinforcement and containment
of grass surfaces, to facilitate regular use
and access by both vehicular and
pedestrian traffic.
The fully interlocking panels are
1.200 x 0.800 mtr x 38mm deep. This
allows for installation in a brick bond
pattern which, combined with the reduction
in joints, adds substantial stability to the
construction and performance. In addition
the larger units facilitate significantly faster
placement.
StableGRASS MAXI panels are tested to
resist minimum compression loadings of
65Kn per square metre, with greater loading
capacity achievable depending on the sub
strata used.
The design and strong construction of the
cells allows for superior provision of root
development space with minimal restriction.
LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT

leads to an ultra-low carbon footprint in
manufacture, use and disposal.
As a permeable paving which facilitates
vegetation growth the end result is
environmentally beneficial whilst enabling
land use for pedestrians and vehicles.
WHAT DOES IT DO?
StableGRASS provides reinforcement for
seeded grass, turf, green roofs or sedum
surfaces to allow regular pedestrian access
and vehicle use in a variety of applications.
Depending on sub base provision these can
include car parking, vehicle, plant and
equipment access, access roads in
environmentally sensitive areas, communal
social spaces and woodland pathways.
The system can be used both as
containment of growing vegetation or as
reinforcement under turf, and is naturally
permeable.
SUDS (Sustainable Drainage):
The system can replace hard surface paving,
which would require planning permission
application for approval in Sustainable
Drainage terms. As a permeable surface, use
of StableGRASS will eliminate water run-off,
presenting minimal impact on demand for
surface water drainage capacity.
StableGRASS can be used in conjunction
with full permeable sub-base construction
or water harvesting installations.

Sub Base GUIDELINES
Stablised gravel paving
Stabilised gravel honeycomb elements should be placed on suitable, compacted previously constructed sub
base (see below for sub base options)
Sub base should receive a lightly compacted blinding layer of up to 25-30 mm of grit sand or limestone/
granite fines.
Units should be bedded onto blinded surface, in a flat layer, to a slight fall if required.
Stabilised gravel honeycombs units are then overfilled with selected gravel to a recommended depth.
Gravel requirement will be 65 kg and 75kg per sq.metre depending on system used.
After fill, surface should receive a misting of water to wash through any residual surface fines and then
accelerate consolidation by a single pass with a plate vibrator or similar light compaction aid
NOTES - FOR SUB BASE OPTIONS
a. For most applications including pedestrian, light vehicle and occasional access by emergency and utility
traffic, sub base should comprises of 10 cm of fully compacted type 1 sub base, with a 25-30mm binding layer.
b. For regular heavier vehicle access and heavy traffic areas, such as car parks.15cm of fully compacted type 1
sub base, with a 25-30mm blinding layer
c. For domestic, pedestrian only applications it is possible to set the units onto compacted earth, followed by
a sand binding layer.
d. For fully permeable paving, or water harvesting applications make
up should be:
i. Earth fully compacted
ii. Layer of geotextile
iii. 25 -27.5 cm of single size filter media gravel, compacted in layers.

StableEDGE
Simply flexible aluminium edge restraint
Stable
EDGE
The StableEDGE paver restraint system is an “L” shaped flexible aluminium section in 2.400 mtr lengths.
Connectors and 250mm spiral steel stakes are included.
StableEDGE is equally suitable for straight lengths or curved shapes. The section is reversible and can be set
underneath the paving or as a buttress outside the paving layer. A range of sizes is offered related to traditional
depths of paving elements (see table below).
FLEXIBLE: Robust construction ensures line
can be precise on straight lengths. Notched
base allows the edgings to accommodate
smooth curves where they are a requirement.
RECESSED or UPSTAND: The restraints
are equally effective recessed below the
finished paving level or set as an upstand
at perimeters to retain other landscape
elements such as lawns or flower beds.
( See table below for depth options).
SECURE CONNECTION: Simple splicing
system securely connects each length to
the next, without obstructing vertical face
support to the paving, in either direction.
INSTALLATION: StableEDGE should be
pinned through a flat, suitable compacted
sub-base, using the 250mm spiral steel
stakes provided. It is generally recommended
that the edge restraints should be staked
below the bedding sand layer, as sharp sand
can wash out over time. Fix edge restraints
to one side of the installation with the base
underneath the paving edge, as a guideline.
Lay pavers from the edge restraint outwards
to the required distance then fix parallel
restraint as a buttress with the base facing
away from the paving. Recessed restraints
should be approx.. 10mm below the paving
surface. Upstands depth determined by site
requirements.
DURABLE: Manufacture in high strength
aluminium with added stability from the
section profile, ensures long term durability.
StableEDGE will not rot like wood, rust like
steel or crack like many plastics.
STAKING DISTANCES:
For entry way, walk ways, patios etc. stake every 50 – 70 cm.
For cart paths, running tracks and driveways stake every 40 – 60 cm.
For heavier vehicle applications and asphalt edges, stake every 30 - 40cm.
