frankfortstation.com life & arts the frankfort station | April 12, 2018 | 27 Fresh Raised Gardens to participate in Kids Expo Submitted by Fresh Raised Gardens Fresh Raised Gardens is a family-owned business by Jason and Rachel Feil of Frankfort Township. They specialize in creating raised bed vegetable gardens for families, schools and community centers. “I have been gardening with my family my entire life, while Jason has been a successful builder/business owner for over 20 years,” Rachel Feil said. “We started out with the intention of creating a simple way to grow safe fresh food for our own family and friends, but we soon discovered many more reasons to help others plant a garden too. Our goal is to help people take control of the foods they eat by harvesting their own fresh produce in an easy to maintain raised bed system.” The business helps families take control of what they eat. By growing their own food, they can eliminate chemicals, pesticides and waxes and even produce such as organic citrus fruits, out-of-season organic cucumbers and organic apples can be waxed. Growing fresh food from their own healthy soil gives them more control over its quality, reducing concern for those with dietary restrictions and allergies. Anyone who has picked their own strawberries or tomatoes know the deep rich color and wonderful flavor is hard to find in any market. Fresh Raised Gardens encourages kids of all ages to eat produce. The business thanks gardening for the wide range of foods children love to eat. The Feils note it wasn’t until their children began school that other parents noticed their kids ate differently. A mother would call their after her child ate Fresh Raised Gardens, a Frankfort Township family-owned business, specialize in creating raised bed vegetable gardens for families, schools and community centers and will be at the Kids Expo at the Roma Sports Club in Frankfort on April 14 and 15. Photo submitted dinner at their house, asking them how on earth they got the child to eat eggplant, kohlrobi, or swiss chard. Additionally, Fresh Raised Gardens encourages families to get children outside and engaged. It is all too easy to get caught up in this fast-paced world. Sports, activities, and technology can easily eat up time. Gardening has helped the Feil family regain a sense of balance and well being. It helps slow their pace, if they chose, and allows them an excuse to put down their screens and reconnect with each other. It offers their a chance for some light exercise and staying active keeps the mind healthy. Little did the Feils’ children know that working in the garden fostered their important life skills like patience and delayed gratification. The Feils saw our children develop their love of science as they built real connections to topics like photosynthesis and worm composting. Fresh Raised Gardens specializes in raised bed gardening because is a perfect solution to areas with poor or contaminated soil, uneven or wet ground. A raised bed offers less soil compaction allowing for easy drainage and ideal growing conditions for root vegetables. In the right location, a raised beds almost takes care of itself.
