24 | April 12, 2018 | The glenview lantern school Winkelman students flex creative muscle at second PTC science fair Submitted by District 31 The District 31 Parent Teacher Club hosted its second annual Science Fair for Winkelman Elementary School in early March. The event showcased presentations by more than 80 of Winkelman’s fourthand fifth-grade students. These budding scientists were given basic instructions and the opportunity to work on any topic of their choosing. The main motive of the science fair was to allow students the opportunity to research, create a hypothesis and answer a question sparked by true interest and curiosity. Projects ranged from mechanical arms and LEGO engineering to DNA and human anatomy to brownies and cupcakes. The science fair was attended by almost 350 Winkleman students and their families. It included not only the student presentations, but an interactive zone with science based games and activities. The finale of the night was a show performed by Steve Bellivue, who has been performing science shows for almost two decades. Using his degree in applied science, he wowed the audience by showing them how science is all around us.
