hplandmark.com sports the highland park landmark | April 12, 2018 | 39 Athlete of the Week 10 Questions with Eva Hanson Eva Hanson is a sophomore at Highland Park High School and is a defender on the girls soccer team. How did you get started playing soccer? I started playing soccer when I was five years old. I played [American Youth Soccer Organization] for a while and then I switched over to Chicago Magic [Soccer Club]. Sports Briefs Boys, girls Giants swimmers and divers awarded academic honors The National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association has recognized both teams with an Academic All-American Scholar Team honor. The boys swimming and diving team received the award at the Silver Level for having a varsity team cumulative GPA of 3.602. The girls swimming and diving team received the same honor at the Gold Level for a cumulative GPA of 3.955. The following swimmers and divers are recognized individually as being Academic All-Americans recognized by the NISCA: • Boys – Sam Hoffman • Girls – Aliana Velick, Rachel Wander, Hannah Wander, Sarah Fishbein, Breanna Haak, Arianne Cole, Noa Cole Why do you love playing soccer? I would say being together as a team. It’s really fun when you can win together and lose together and you’ll know that you’ll always have each other’s backs. What is a challenging part about playing soccer? The most challenging part, for me, is when you’re down in a game and you’re trying not to give up and stay in the game. Who is the most prepared person on the team? Probably Amanda Amiel, she is sort of our team mom kind of. She always has stuff for all of us. Where is the coolest place you have every travelled to? The coolest place I have ever travelled to would probably be Italy because it has beautiful architecture and it was warm there too. What is your go-to pump-up song? Probably “God’s Plan” by Drake. Do you have any pregame superstitions? Before every game, and also during halftime, the defense does a handshake together to start off the game right. Brittany Kapa/22nd Century Media What is an activity you want to do off your bucket list? Something that I’ve always wanted to do is go hot-air ballooning. I think it would be really pretty to see the world from so high up. Who is your favorite professional athlete? Maybe Tobin Heath because she is really good and it’s really inspiring to see such a good woman athlete. If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would you choose? I guess I would trade places with Selena Gomez. She has a really good voice, and I don’t. Just for a day though. Interview by Sports Editor Brittany Kapa Some exclusions may apply. Details in store.
