Clare, 35, of Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of cannabis at 2:13 a.m. on April 1 in the intersection of Route 41 and Westleigh Road in Lake Forest. Police on routine patrol observed a vehicle driving with a popped front driver’s side tire and the vehicle was swerving across the lanes. After conducting a traffic stop, an officer met with the driver, identified as Clare, who was the only occupant of the vehicle. While speaking with Clare, officers on scene detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. Clare confirmed he had consumed two beers. Officers requested Clare to submit to several field sobriety tests, which he failed to complete satisfactory. Based on the observations by officers, Clare was Lake Bluff house fire ‘a total loss’ Alyssa Groh, Editor The Lake Bluff Fire Department found the second story of a single-family home fully engulfed in flames with no occupants inside the home at approximately 2:30 a.m. April 3 in the 400 block of Arbor Drive, according to a press release from the Village of Lake Bluff. When the fire department arrived, they located the only occupant of the home, who was a visiting family member, safely outside of the home. There were also no injuries to first responders. “Unfortunately, this fire arrested for a DUI of alcohol. Officer also located a large quantity of cannabis in Clare’s vehicle. During processing, Clare provided a breath sample that resulted in a 0.216 BAC. In other police news: Lake Forest: March 23 • Tony Perez, 36, of Lake Bluff, was charged with driving with a suspended driver’s license and expired registration at 10:17 p.m. in the intersection of Old Elm Road and Valley Road. Lake Bluff: March 21 • A daily newspaper was reported stolen at 8:23 a.m. in the 200 block of E. Scranton Avenue. It was reported the neighbor of the complainant allegedly stole the newspaper. Lake Bluff, Knollwood and Lake Forest Fire Departments responded to check on the driver of Unit 2 due to airbag deployment. An officer completed a traffic crash report and issued a copy to both drivers. The driver of Unit 1 was issued a traffic citation for improper lane usage and the driver of Unit 2 was issued a traffic citation for no valid driver’s license. • A memorial bench at the James Court Tennis Courts was reported damaged at 12:45 p.m. in the Public Safety Building. The subject showed an officer a picture of an approximately 6 inch in diameter burn mark on one of the benches. It was unknown when the damage occurred or by what means. March 19 • A property damage accident was reported at 3:09 p.m. in the 300 block of W. Washington Avenue. March 18 • A two-vehicle accident with no injuries was reported at 5:14 p.m. at the intersection of Rockland and Waukegan roads.
