Tree City USA communities are recognized for meeting four requirements set by the Arbor Day Foundation that reflect a strong commitment to maintaining the urban tree-scape, including having a tree board or department, a treecare ordinance, a minimum $2 per capita annual community forestry budget, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation. “Tree City USA communities see the impact an urban forest has in a community first hand,” said Dan Lambe, president of the Arbor Day Foundation. “Additionally, recognition brings residents together and creates a sense of community pride, whether it’s through volunteer engagement or public education.” The Village of Winnetka takes pride in this recognition of their forestry efforts.
