Discover From Page 3 the late-1970s, when it was held at the old Brementowne Mall. “It was a big growth time for the village and we wanted to make people aware of what was available in their own community,” she said of the expo’s origins. The idea of knowing your community remains a cornerstone of the event. Mary Lou Henson has lived in Tinley Park for over 30 years and she still enjoys attending Discover Tinley to get further acquainted with the village’s offerings. “I love everything about Tinley Park,” she said. “It’s convenient for everything and I like the neighborhood.” The Tinley Park Public Library was among the most popular booths as staff shared information about spring and summer programming. “This summer our whole theme for the summer reading program is Illinois 200 because Illinois is now 200 years old,” explained Marketing and Adult Program Coordinator Wendy Babjak. “The kids will be celebrating Illinois’ birthday and in the adult area we will be celebrating the history of the state and its landmarks with programs and presenters.” P.A.W.S. of Tinley Park, Stella’s Place, Tinley Park- Park District, Great Clips, Marquette Bank, Tinley Park Historical Society, Orland Township, Zion Lutheran Church and many more local organizations were on hand to share information with attendees. The Tinley Park Sister City Commission used the expo as an opportunity to connect with residents who may be interested in hosting an international guest this October when approximately 17 travelers from Büdingen, Germany are to visit. Entertainment was scheduled throughout the day featuring sets from Fun, Fun, Fun DJs, Central Middle School Choir, TNT Dance and more. There was also a variety of special attractions, including balloon sculptures and costumed characters for the younger attendees to enjoy. A lot of work goes into bringing the Village of Tinley Park together for one expo, and Brudd credits her fellow Community Resource Commission volunteers – especially Al Siegers, who handles the event’s layout and much more – with Discover Tinley’s continued success. “They spend literally hundreds of hours planning this over the year,” she said. “They want to keep Tinley Park the wonderful small town and family-oriented community that we are – a community made up of a group of neighborhoods that come together as one.” Co-produced by Billy Branch and Sylvia Ewing LowerSchoolShowcase At atime when curriculums arebeing cut, MPA’sschool dayisinfused with art, music, drama, worldlanguages, technology, and physical education.
