VACANCIES Kilbeggan Community Group CLG, urgently seeks women and men who are eligible to be employed on a community employment scheme. Vacancies exist in the Loughnavalley, Castletown and Ballinagore and the general Kilbeggan areas. Please contact Jennifer at 057 9332711 or call to St. Vincent de Paul House, Main Street, Kilbeggan, or email . As highlighted by Cllr. Robert Troy recently, community employment schemes are suffering at the expense of other schemes. This will result in communities being left without a worker as has happened in one local village already. At present, when an employee has fulfilled the usual three year term on a scheme, there is no one to replace him or her. For example, Loughnavalley now has only one community employee with very little hope of replacing Eugene, who left last month. If this situation continues, where it is virtually impossible to fill vacancies then communities such as Loughnavalley will suffer, particularly in relation to Tidy Towns work. As has often been mentioned before in this column, very few realise the amount of work carried out by these men and women. In Loughnavalley, mowing, strimming, hedges, spraying, litter control, the list is endless. Who is going to carry out this work if we have no community employees? Please do lobby local representatives. The death of community employment schemes will be to the detriment of small communities like Loughnavalley. USED CLOTHES COLLEC- TION Take the opportunity the declutter your wardrobe as you spring-clean and drop off your used clothes at Loughnavalley Gaelic Football Field on Monday and Thursday from 7pm and Tuesday and Fridays from 7.30pm. Please contact a club member or Sinead at 086 0411740. GO RAIBH MAITH AGAT MAREE On the subject of community employment schemes, well known and highly respected co-founder of Ballinagore Tidy Towns and BCDL Community Group Limited, Ms. Maree Baker has tendered her resignation. Maree, has not only been active in her own community of Ballinagore but set up the hugely successful BCDL Community Group Limited (now known as Kilbeggan Community Group CLG) which she and Dermot Garvin presided over for about 20 years, managing a large and varied workforce. It was thanks to Maree that Loughnavalley became involved in tidy towns 18 years ago and we have enjoyed her continuous support and encouragement over the many years, deeply appreciated by all. Maree was also instrumental in the setting up of BCDL Friendship Club 14 yrs ago. Maree’s name became synonymous with volunteerism and community spirit personified. Undoubtedly, we have not hear the last of such a vibrant and inspirational woman, who has devoted so much of her time to voluntary, community work, but for the moment, Maree, enjoy your ‘retirement’ and from all of us at LTT... Go n’eiri an tadh agus go raibh mile, mile maith agat. BCDL FRIENDSHIP CLUB The BCDL club meets again next Monday after the bank holiday from 10am at the hall in Castletown Geoghegan.
