Remotely control per infrared and radio 

Environmental control is the remote control of devices. 

With a transmitter, receivers are controlled by radio or infrared. Receivers can be 

the TV, a telephone with infrared receiver or an emergency call system. 

A bed control provided with a receiver or a correspondingly equipped switch can 

be controlled, too. 

Environmental control enables people with motor impairments to operate devices 

and systems in their environment adapted to their possibilities and thereby 

significantly improve the quality of life.

The RemoBox is an infrared radio converter. With 

an infrared remote control the entire spectrum of 

ELDAT Easywave radio receivers can be used. 

The corresponding function of the RemoBox is 

taught once into the Easywave radio receiver. You 

can select between 2-button operation (on / off), 1- 

button operation (alternating on / off) or a timer 

function (7 minutes on) at the receiver. 

In case that you only need a maximum of four 

radio receivers, the RemoBox can be switched to 

the IRS compatibility mode. A contact socket 

located directly on the RemoBox with normally 

closed and normally open contacts can also be 

controlled directly by infrared (nurse call etc.). 

The RemoBox can use simple PC software to 

generate all infrared codes for teaching into the 

appropriate environment control unit. Thus you do 

not need any additional teach-in remote control.

keypad with the finger or via scanning. For this 

purpose, one or two control elements such as keys 

or sensors are connected by means of an 

integrated socket. In scanning mode, which can be 

carried out in different modes, the symbol of the 

active button is displayed in the display. All icons of 

the current menu appear on the right and left of the 

display. If a voice output is specified, it is played 

back when a new key is displayed. 

The large graphic color display shows all functions 

in high contrast, so that the operation is very 

simple and clear, especially in the scanning mode. 

The JamesLE has an integrated rechargeable 

battery with a long operating time for independent 

use on the wheelchair, bed or armchair. The built-in 

emergency call function makes it easy to call for 

help. In the case of finger operation, all sensor 

fields form a single large, easily accessible key.

The environmental control unit JamesLE allows 

people who cannot operate customary remote 

controls, or only do it with difficulty, to control 

practically all electrical devices. This includes not 

only entertainment electronics such as televisions, 

receivers or sound systems, but also light switches, 

blinds, telephones and much more. 

JamesLE can learn infrared signals from any 

remote control and trigger the devices by means of 

its powerful infrared transmitter. Up to 112 

functions can be used on 8 levels on 14 key pads 

each. Each key can be assigned with up to 4 IR 

signals, for example, to activate several functions, 

automatically one after the other, such as TV muted 

and pick up telephone. Each field can be provided 

with a symbol and a message with voice output. 

Thanks to its comprehensive accessories, 

JamesLE is a flexible environmental control tool. 

By means of the optionally available RemoBox (see 

page 6), also control radio-controlled devices, e. g. 

power sockets and light switches can be triggered.

The telephone mobile handset with 

integrated infrared control 

The infrared control system RemoSet, integrated 

into the telephone mobile handset, enables 

complete operation of the keypad and the handsfree 

system by remote control. Main application is 

the operation by people with severe and most 

severe physical disabilities. This is usually done by 

means of an environmental control device. Thanks 

to the infrared remote control, neither a handset 

has to be held nor have any buttons on the 

telephone mobile handset to be pushed. 

The infrared code used is standard, which can be 

used by any commercially available adaptive 

environmental control device. 

RemoSet is the adaptation of a commercially 

available cordless telephone mobile handset, into 

which a complete IR control module has been 

integrated. This allows the entire keypad of the 

mobile handset to be controlled by an infrared 

remote control. 

Due to the fact that the complete infrared control 

system has been integrated into the mobile 

handset, it is not only ergonomically and very easy 

to handle for the wheelchair user, but is also an 

easy-to-use tool in any day-to-day care. It can still 

be used like a normal cordless phone. 

The RemoSet mobile handset permits hands-free 

talking in brilliant sound quality. The sound quality 

is especially noticeable when you are more than 

1.50 m away from the device and the person you 

are talking to can still understand very well. 

The telephone mobile handset equipped with 

RemoSet is supplied including a base station with 

charging tray for connection to the public telephone 

network or a point-to-point connection. Due to the 

extensive accessories for DECT phones, the 

cordless telephone can also be used as ISDNcompatible 

or even VOIP telephone (internet 

telephony). By purchasing additional DECT / GAPT 

compatible mobile handsets, the base station can 

easily be upgraded to a cordless telephone

Different device addresses: If several beds with a 

BIF8plus are used in a room, it must be ensured 

that each bed responds only to the corresponding 

remote control. For this reason, the reception 

address can be set. 

The infrared bed control BIF8plus allows wireless 

operating of an electrically adjustable bed by 

means of an infrared remote control or an 

environmental control unit. The BIF8plus is plugged 

into the motor control of the bed instead of or 

parallel to the wired manual control. BIF8plus 

provides up to eleven different switching functions 

for this purpose. 

Characteristics: 

•Freely selectable multiple / single function 

assignment 

•Safety circuit so that safe operation is ensured 

even with environmental control devices. 

•Individually configured for most electrically 

adjustable beds available. 

Safety circuit: 

Automatic shutdown of a continuous actuation: A 

permanent function by continuously pressing a 

function key is interrupted after a predefined time. 

Monitoring switching contacts: 

BIF8plus detects when one of the switching 

contacts is no longer electrically cut off due to a 

defect. In this case, the activation of the switching 

contacts is deactivated. 

System self-monitoring: In the BIF8plus safety 

measures were taken for a possible disturbance of 

the control unit. A watchdog module deactivates 

the activation of all switching contacts in case of a 

failure. 

Groups of switching functions and settings can be 

conveniently set or changed by means of a USB 

interface using PC software (Windows). 

As a rule, the standard functions headboard up/ 

down, level up/down and foot section up/down are 

operated. Depending on the type of bed, 

combinations or special functions are also possible. 

Multiple actuations of the same functions: 

In order to ensure safe operation by means of 

infrared, a short compulsory pause is inserted 

between the repeated operations of the same 

functions in sequence.

A safe connection 

suitable for all 

The AssistX products dispose of the new, 

versatile AssistX port. Any sensor and control 

element can be connected via the 3.5 mm jack 

plugs. The control element is automatically 

recognized and adapted accordingly. The power 

supply for active sensors and a soothing lamp 

function is also provided via this port, which is 

also compatible with older control elements. The 

port is monitored and reacts to critical changes 

(eg cable break or permanent contact).

AssistX Call 

Secure call Triggering

AssistX Call is equipped with 2 AssistX ports. 

These can be connected to any 2 single sensors 

or push-buttons or AssistX port compatible 

sensors. 

AssistX Call is delivered to fit the 

corresponding call system. The power supply, if 

supported, is provided by the connected call 

system. If this is not possible, the power supply 

is provided by an external power supply, 

protected by a backup battery with several 

hours of runtime. 

AssistX Call is a sensor adapter for luminous 

call systems and enables call triggering using 

special sensors (call triggers) which cannot be 

connected directly to the call system. For 

example, with AssistX Call the proximity 

sensor AssistX ProX, acoustic sensor AS one, 

sip-puff encoder Pneumax, infrared receiver 

AssistX IR one, or various push-buttons, 

including large-sized push-buttons, can be used 

to call for help. 

AssistX Call is powered by the call system or 

an external power supply. In both cases, the 

device works even in the event of a power 

failure in the network. When powered by an 

external power supply, the built-in lithiumpolymer 

battery ensures full functionality for a 

few hours in case of power failure. 

The device is individually configured for different 

call systems and delivered with a connection cable 

pre-configured to the call system. 

Inputs for call triggering 

The sensors are connected to the two 3.5 mm input 

jack plugs. AssistX Call can add and distinguish 

between different sensors. 

Safety 

The AssistX Call monitors safety-relevant 

parameters. If a proper function is no longer 

guaranteed, the device triggers a call. 

Monitored are: 

•Power supply to the control unit 

•Sensor error (cable break, ejection) 

•Function monitoring of the active transmitter 

•Self-monitoring of the electronics 

•Defective sensor cable 

A defective sensor cable 

A defective sensor / switch cable or an 

inadvertently unplugged sensor / switch can 

present a danger to the caller or third persons. If a 

sensor error is detected, a call is triggered. The 

error can be displayed visually and acoustically.

For simple switches with a normally open contact, 

it is not possible to detect a defective cable for 

technical reasons. In order to achieve the highest 

possible degree of safety in these types of switches 

as well, simple switches with normally open 

contact must be operated at least once every 24 

hours. As a rule, this is guaranteed in everyday 

nursing care. If the 24 hours are exceeded without 

the sensor being activated, a signal light on the 

AssistX Call flashes and signals that the sensor is 

no longer considered safe and must be activated. If 

activation is detected, the LED goes out again. 

The call is triggered in parallel. 

However, a sensor / switch test can also be 

manually requested at any time by the nursing 

staff (morning routine).

Assist X Mobil is a wireless home and nurse 

call system with connection for any triggering

The basic system consists of transmitter, 

receiver and a USB charger. The receiver can 

be easily carried on the belt using a clip. 

The AssistX Mobil radio paging system is the 

ideal solution when nursing care with mobility 

and safety at the same time is required . 

AssistX Mobil is connected in less than 5 

minutes and easy to use. 

Depending on the level of disability, special 

sensors for triggering the distress call can be 

plugged into the transmitter's connection socket. 

This allows even people with the most severe 

disabilities to make a call with an individual 

sensor. 

Several transmitters, as well as several 

receivers can be used together. Thus, the 

system is also particularly suitable for use in 

small residential groups. 

The name of the caller or the room is displayed 

in plain text on the display of the receiver (s). 

Functional principle: 

By pushing the button or operating a plugged in 

push-button / switch, a radio paging is triggered 

by the transmitter. This is signaled visually and 

acoustically to the caller. 

The radio paging is picked up by the receiver 

and signaled visually, acoustically and by vibration. 

The receiver then sends back an acknowledgment 

signal to confirm proper reception. If this 

acknowledgment signal is missing, the call is 

repeated automatically. The caller recognizes the 

acknowledgment by the light of a red calming 

lamp. 

At the receiver, the call must be acknowledged by 

pressing the "OK" key. This stops the acoustic and 

optical signaling. 

After this, the triggered call must be acknowledged 

manually with the caller. If this does not occur 

within a certain time, the call process is 

automatically repeated from the beginning. 

Perfect individual call triggering: 

AssistX Mobil is equipped with an AssistX port 

(see page 15) for call triggering. This one can be 

connected with any simple switches, push-buttons 

or AssistX Port compatible sensors. As a result, in 

addition to standard simple switches, the AssistX 

ProX one proximity sensor or the AssistX AS 

one acoustic sensor can be inserted directly into 

the transmitter and used to trigger the call. 

No additional power supply or cable is 

required. 

Particularly safe: 

The AssistX Mobil network communicates in the 

protected "Social Alarm" frequency band (869 

MHz). This makes the system particularly protected 

against interfering radio signals from other devices. 

Both transmitters and receivers have installed a 

powerful Lipo battery with a running time of at 

least 24 hours as power supply. 

AssistX Mobil also features a range detection. If a 

transmitter is out of range, this is indicated in the 

receiver. A low battery charge status of the 

transmitter is also displayed in the receiver and 

alarmed before reaching a critical level. 

All calls are recorded in the receiver with their 

origin, date and time so that they can be evaluated 

later, if necessary.

Acoustic sensor that listens to human

With the acoustic sensor AS one, physically 

disabled persons can reliably trigger a distress 

call, without contact and movement. The wide 

range of settings makes it possible to adapt the 

acoustic sensor very well to the user's needs. 

Ambient noise is effectively filtered out. 

AS one can be set to human tones of different 

volume, sound frequency range and duration. In 

addition, a special pulse mode can be set for 

severely impaired users. 

The AS one features an AssistX port and 

therefore can be operated with all compatible 

devices from the AssistX family. The AS one is 

self-monitoring and automatically triggers a call 

in case of a failure. 

Connection 

AS one is connected to an AssistX port using 

the supplied cable. For example, AssistX Port, 

AssistX Mobil and ClickMan (newer 

generation) offer an AssistX port. 

Sound mode 

The pitch of the acoustic signal to trigger the sensor 

can be taught in. The tolerance for sensitivity and 

frequency as well as the duration of the sound can 

be adjusted. The acoustic sensor can be triggered 

with all sounds up to the pitch of a whistle. The 

most reliable triggering is achieved with a 

sonorous humming sound "Mmmmm". 

Pulse mode 

For heavily impaired users, who can only keep a 

very short sound, the acoustic sensor can be 

switched to the pulse mode. The sensor then 

responds to all noise pulses (clicking the tongue 

etc.), which reach the adjusted volume.

Proximity sensor 

The proximity sensor is plugged into the AssistX

conventional single-button sensor. In order to 

trigger a switching function, it is sufficient to come 

close to the sensor with the hand or another body 

part; direct contact is not necessary. Therefore, the 

sensor is very well suited for call triggering with 

minimal effort. 

The proximity sensor, which is integrated in a 

flexible hosepipe, can be individually bent towards 

the body. Nevertheless, the set position remains 

very stable. AssistX ProX one is available either 

mounted on a tripod and on a hinged bracket.

Mode of operation

to use and to maintain. The field of application is 

mainly in hospitals and nursing homes, with

Mouthpiece, air hose and hygienic filter (99.9% 

bacteria filter) can be replaced easily as a matter of

The actual proximity sensor is integrated in a 

flexible tube. This makes a perfect positioning of 

the sensor on the patient very easy. 

In order to trigger a switching function, it is 

sufficient to reach the immediate proximity of 

the sensor with the hand, a finger or another 

part of the body. As a result, the force required 

for an actuation is reduced to a minimum. 

In addition, intelligent operating aids such as an

Which switches for which purpose? 

Choosing the proper switch is very important because it represents the interface between 

human being and the devices to be controlled and has to be operable as optimally as 

possible. This includes the manner and power of the actuation as well as the position. 

As a rule, push-buttons require actuating by a hand (finger) or, in rare cases, by foot or 

head. In these cases, the actuating force and correct position (on tripod, protection 

against slipping) is important. 

In many cases, an approximation sensor (e. g. ProX2) is a good solution. Such a sensor 

can be optimally positioned by means of a tripod and a flexible arm and can be activated 

practically without force even by very small movements (head movement, finger 

movement). 

Pneumatic sensor switches such as the Hy-Pneumax are always useful when movements 

are not possible or hardly possible, but sucking and/or blowing into a small mouthpiece. A 

typical use is with people with a severe spinal paralysis. The necessary pressure can be 

adjusted and two functions can be triggered. 

Hygiene, especially in hospitals, is ensured, especially when using the proximity sensors, 

but also in the case of the product Hy-Pneumax because all relevant components are 

interchangeable.

In multi-mode, you can switch between up to 5

parallel operation of environmental control 

device and luminous call system in a simple

An acoustic and optical signal can be set as an 

acknowledgement to the operator. ClickMan 

becomes the ProX 2 by using an optionally 

available capacitive proximity sensor. The 

proximity sensor is plugged into the ClickMan 

by means of a 3.5 mm jack plug and then can be 

used like a customary single-button sensor. In 

order to trigger a switching function, it is 

sufficient to come close to the sensor with the

The connection to the PC is effected by

Connections for control elements 

Control elements with one or two functions are usually connected by 

means of a jack plug with 3.5 mm diameter. The mono plug serves to 

connect control elements with one function (e. g. push-button like Piko 

button), the stereo plug for those with two functions (e. g. Pneumax for 

sip and puff). 

Control elements with 5 or more functions (e. g. Mini-Joystick) are 

frequently connected by means of a so-called 9-pin DSUB plug. The 

control element always features the female plug. 

SwitchMouse V2 USB 

The SwitchMouse is plugged into the computer 

instead of a normal mouse. The individual 

directions of movement of the normal mouse are 

simulated by a joystick (or another multi-sensor), 

which is plugged into the SwitchMouse. Instead of 

moving the mouse, the corresponding sensor 

(right, left, etc.) is actuated. The keys of a normal 

mouse are replaced by individual sensors or by the 

acknowledgement button of the joystick (if 

available). 

The SwitchMouse is a further development of the 

INCAP SwitchMouse. 

Connection to MAC or PC 

The SwitchMouse is connected directly to a USB 

port on your computer. It is recognized 

automatically, installation of drivers is not 

necessary for normal operation. Connections of 

single sensors (e.g., push-buttons) and joystick. 

A 9-pin D-SUB connector for the connection of a 

joystick and eight lateral jacks for the connection of 

single sensors with a 3.5 mm jack plug are 

attached to the SwitchMouse. 

The joystick's acknowledgement button 

corresponds to a mouse click of the left mouse 

button. The four left jacks can be used for the four 

directions instead of the joystick. The four right 

jacks correspond to the following mouse key 

functions:
