Heritage In our town you

Heritage In our town you can literally lift history off the pages. From our smuggling haunts to spooky medieval gaols, Norman castles to Tudor houses, the most famous Napoleonic fort on the South Coast to our illustrious transport heritage - you’ll trip over history at every turn. Let us take you back in time as you discover our development into an elegant seaside resort at the Grade II listed Heritage Centre to our naval chronicles at the Lifeboat museum. Highlights As time goes by Originally built to deter Napoleon’s forces in the 1800’s, uncover the stories of those who once lived in the Redoubt Fortress over its 200 year history. Roam the gun platform, enjoy a tour or talk and visit the café and gift shop. In the grounds of the fortress discover the Azimuth sculpture and conjure up images of the Norman fleet sailing to Pevensey, the Spanish Armada on their way to battle the English Navy and the First World War airships patrolling this coastline. Rediscover lost pieces of time in an explosive new FREE exhibition coming to the Pavilion as ‘Eastbourne Remembers’. Journey through some extraordinary memories and uncover some of the ways we have remembered and forgotten. (Redoubt and exhibition opens 19 March 2018).
