Respect for the environment Daily, PONANT is committed to being a leader in environmental protection. As we sail into sensitive areas, it is essential for us to respect the marine environment and the places we visit ashore. Natural behaviour for our teams and crews, all passionate about the ecological balance of oceans and nature. A responsible and awarded commitment for the environment Our ships are awarded “clean ship” label, ensuring environmental regulatory compliance in our operations and anticipating new regulations (recycling, reuse practices, waste and sewage treatment on board, reduced exhaust emissions, sustainable purchasing practices, low energy bulbs for lighting…). In December 2016, PONANT was awarded the Blue Charter Trophy from the French Shipowners' Association recognising its exemplary nature in terms of economic and social development and care for the environment. Joining IAATO and AECO PONANT is a full and proud member of the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO). IAATO is an industry group organisation that sets the highest possible tourism operating standards in an effort to ensure appropriate, safe and environmentally sound travel to Antarctica. Its rules include guidelines about maximal amount of passengers during shore landings, and other specific guidelines about wildlife watching, visitor briefings and key safety obligations on operators). In the Arctic, PONANT is member of the AECO, Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators. AECO is dedicated to managing responsible, environmentally friendly and safe tourism in the Arctic. Le Cercle Polaire For the last six years, PONANT has actively supported Le Cercle Polaire®, a think tank focused on preserving polar environments. To raise awareness among passengers, members of Le Cercle Polaire® are regular guests of honour on our polar cruises during which they discuss their projects with passengers. Support to local communities Culture and traditions of local communities are an invaluable wealth that deserve our support. PONANT initiated a partnership with the Upernavik FabLab (fabrication lab): the goal of the Upernavik FabLab is to train local craftsmen of the Inuit community and give them the means to reproduce emblematic pieces, which can then be sold in museums and on board our ships. PONANT contributes financially to the FabLab’s equipment purchases and donates 10€ to the association for each “travel documents by email” option. Luxury Expeditions by | 17
