FEATURE HAPPY TRAILS! Treat your family to the great outdoors at McLean Game Refuge BY FRANCIS LIBBY The McLean Game Refuge is a 4,400 acre nature preserve with over 20 miles of trails for hiking, cross-country skiing and horseback riding. It's a great place to get outdoors, get some exercise and enjoy the beauty and benefits of nature. OPEN DAILY - 8:00 am to dusk MOBILE MAP DOWNLOAD: You can download the Refuge trails map to your mobile device to use while hiking - go to www.mcleangamerefuge.org PARKING: The main entrance to the Game Refuge is located on Route 10/202 in Granby. For additional parking sites, see map. PETS: Pets must be leashed at all times while in the Refuge. ACCESSIBILITY: Trails are open to all visitors including those with mobility impairments that require the use of electric or manually-powered mobility aids or devices. However, trail conditions may not be suitable in all spots for the use of certain mobility devices or for easy walking. All trail users should exercise caution. Internal-combustion powered devices are not allowed. WILDLIFE: Visitors regularly see owls, foxes, bobcats, coyotes, snakes, and waterfowl. There has also been a return of some larger animals including black bears, turkeys, ravens, and pileated woodpeckers. Visitors are encouraged to remain aware of their surroundings and to report any unsafe trail conditions or animal behavior that they encounter. There's approximately 1000 ft elevation gradient from Trout Pond to high points in the West Mountains Over 50 species of trees are growing in the Refuge, with approximately 2.5 million live trees of all ages and sizes, up to a maximum of 145 feet tall.
