Bill Gates’ Kindness

Bill Gates’ Kindness Bill Gates Saved His Competitor - Apple Steve Jobs called up Bill Gates and said, “I’m going to turn this thing around.” Bill always had a soft spot for Apple. We got him into the application software business. The first Microsoft apps were Excel and Word for the Mac. So I called him and said, “I need help.” Apple’s not going to survive that long if we’re at war. I know that. All I need is a commitment that Microsoft will keep developing for the Mac and an investment by Microsoft in Apple so it has a stake in our success.” In August of 1997, Apple and Microsoft decided to put the past behind them and focus on the future. At that year’s Macworld event, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates announced that the two companies had entered into a historic agreement. In addition to agreeing to a broad patent cross-licensing agreement, Microsoft promised to support Microsoft Office for the Mac for 5 years while Apple agreed to make Internet Explorer the default web browser on the Mac. Bill & Melinda Gates Philanthropy Bill Gates is worth $80 billion. He gave 95% of his wealth to charity. He also motivated 130 billionaires to give half of their wealth to their favorite charity (not to his own foundation). Bill & Melinda Gates don’t give charity for fame or recognition; they have a clear goal of how they want to change and improve health and education. They tackled the toughest issues in health and education and they hired the best minds to solve them. Bill & Melinda Gates are not just pouring money in; they are constantly evaluating what works and what doesn’t work and they search for what’s the best practice. They hire the best minds to create innovations to solve the poverty and health issues in poor countries. Bill and his wife make deals with pharmaceutical companies to get discounted prices for medicines that they bring over to third world countries. The companies that researched the making of new medicines focus on medicines that make a profit, for example, such as medicines that cure boldness. But, Bill and Melinda motivated them to find cures for diseases that affect poor people. As a result of this effort, he saved 6 million children. Bill and his wife Melinda travel to third world countries and stay over in the homes of poor people to get a feel for what their needs are. Melinda Gates goes undercover. She hides her identity and has discussions with poor people in Africa to get a sense of their everyday struggles. Sara couldn’t have kids.
