Winners of the Smart Xchange SMME Awards 2017 Whilst the South African economy is dejected, employment is scarce and a high death rate of small business engulfs the country there are many brave SMMEs working hard and endlessly to succeed and contribute to the growth of our economy. Some of these SMMEs are succeeding against all odds due to the support and guidance of incubators such as Smart Xchange. Smart Xchange is an ICT SMME Incubator based in central Durban and Port Shepstone, fostering a breeding ground of prosperous business and entrepreneurial growth for SMMEs in the MICTe sector. On the 21st of November 2017, Smart Xchange recognised and celebrated the hard work and outstanding achievements of the SMMEs throughout 2017 at the Coastlands Hotel in Durban. This prestigious annual event acknowledged the strive for excellence amongst the entrepreneurs and the collaboration of Smart Xchange and its strategic partners. In attendance were dignitaries whom included the eThekwini Municipality ex-speaker, Councillor Logie Naidoo; Councillor Nkosenhle Madlala who represented the eThekwini Mayor; Port Shepstone Mayor Councillor Cynthia Mqwebu and CEO of SA SME Fund, Mr Quinton Dicks who served as the keynote speaker to the event. They were highly impressed with the achievements of the SMMEs, including the graduates who have reached their full 3 year journey with the incubator. The graduates include Aproface, IT Master, KJT Information Technologies, Mshazi Photographers and DI Info Systems. This year’s awards and prizes were sponsored by Mustek, 3C Technologies, Keyline, Liquid Telecoms, Centre for Fine Arts and Animation, IT Master and Astel Consulting. All these brands are invested in the growth of the SMMEs, by showing steadfast support and commitment to the entrepreneurs’ commendable success. Taking SMME of The Year 2017 is Kasi Brothers, with runner-up Msalwa Productions. In acknowledging the potential and strength of the newcomers, the Best Newcomer is awarded to Madlokovu Business with FocalSoft as runner-up. Mshazi Photographers and Events Production is awarded Best Performing Woman of the Year with SMME News as runner-up.
