The article was published in the Pattern Analysis and Application Journal, Volume 1, Issue 1 First Consultancy Grant Secured Assoc Prof Dr Cecilia Devi Wilfred from Chemical Engineering Department received the consultancy services amounting RM8,900 from FRIM. The consultancy work entitled “Pyrolysis Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry Analysis” First Research Exhibition Entry UTP bagged one gold medal during its first ever entry in research exhibition during the 16th International Invention, Innovation, Industrial Design and Technology Exhibition (ITEX 2005) Mar Sept 1998 2004 M ay 2005 First SHELL Professorial Chair UTP-SHELL Academic Chair Sponsorship in Petroleum Geosciences. Prof Dr Bernard Pierson was the first person appointed for the position Nov 2006 Apr 2006 June 1999 First National Research Grant Secured UTP received its first national research grant under the Intensification of Research in Priority Areas (IRPA) Grant Scheme worth RM142,400 for the project entitled “Environmentally Friendly Advanced High Voltage Rechargeable Li-Ion Batteries for Commercialisation” led by Prof Dr Azmi Shariff Feb 2005 First Industry Grant Secured Assoc Prof Dr Abdul Nassir Matori from Civil and Environmental Engineering Department received the first industry grant for UTP. The grant amount worth RM69,175 from Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) for his project entitled “Seismic Hazard of Peninsular Malaysia for Structural Design Purposes ” J u ly 2005 First Consultancy Work Secured Prof Dr V R Radhakrishnan received the first consultancy work for UTP. The consultancy work was awarded by MLNG. The project is titled “Development of Quality Estimator Software for the Bottom Product of the Depropaniser Column of One MLNG” amounting RM50,000 First GENEVA Exhibition UTP Research team brought home 1 gold and 2 silver medals during their first entry at the 34th International Exhibition of Invention, New Techniques and Products of Geneva Jan 2007 First Schlumberger Professorial Chair Inauguration of The Schlumberger Professorial Chair in Petroleum Engineering. Prof Dr Birol M Demiral was appointed as the first person for the position PEOPLE THAT MADE US PROUD UTP VC Admitted as William Pitt Fellow UTP Vice Chancellor, Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hj Hashim was admitted as a William Pitt Fellow. The fellowship was conferred by the Pembroke College of Cambridge in recognition of UTP’s partnership with the College in academic and research activities OCT 2016 Continuous Recognition for UTP Researcher by TRSM Prof Dr Suzana Yusup from Department of Chemical Engineering was awarded as the 2016 Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia. She is the 2nd award recipient of the TRSM from UTP AUG 2016 M AY 2017 ITEX 2017 Achievements for UTP UTP bagged 23 gold medals, 9 silver medals, 1 special award and the Patron Award for winning the highest number of awards at the International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX 2017) NOV 2016 First MRSA Recipient for UTP Prof Dr Suzana Yusup was recognised at the Malaysia's Rising Star Award (MRSA) 2016. She was awarded under the category Highly Cited Review for Women in Science Award. First Technofund Grant Secured Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) awarded UTP its first TechnoFund grant through Prof Ir Dr Ahmad Fadzil Mohamad Hani for his project entitled “Computerised Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) Monitoring and Grading System”, worth RM1,021,000 J u ly 2007 Mitsubishi Corporation Professorial Chair Establishment of Mitsubishi Corporation Chair in Green Technology at UTP. Prof Dr Yoshimitsu Uemura was appointed for the position Apr 2009 First ASM Fellow in UTP Prof Ir Dr Ahmad Fadzil Mohamad Hani was appointed as a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) in the discipline of Engineering and Computer Sciences Apr 2010 First Local Patent Granted UTP received its first patent granted in Malaysia through an invention from Prof Ir Dr Ahmad Fadzil Mohamad Hani for his invention entitled “A Non-Invasive Method for Analyzing Retina Ocular Manifested Disease” June 2011 First PRGS Grant Secured UTP received its first batch of grant under the Ministry of Higher Education’s (MoHE) Prototype Research Grant Scheme (PRGS). The group which consists of 7 different projects received a total amount of RM1,400,200 SEP 2011 June 2007 First Petroleum Research Grant Secured Assoc Prof Dr Marappagounder Ramasamy received a Petroleum Research Fund (PRF) grant worth RM5,638,600 for his project entitled “Development of Fouling Mitigation Technology Suite - Optimisation of Energy Recovery from Crude Preheat Train” Highest Acknowledgement for UTP’s Technologist Adz Jamros Jamali from Electrical & Electronics Department won the National Technologist Award, the first technologist from UTP to win the award organised by Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) M ay 2015 Dec 2008 First International Research Grant Secured UTP received its first international research grant under the European Union Erasmus Mundus Programme. Assoc Prof Dr Mohamad Naufal Mohamad Saad received RM68,700 for his project entitled “EACOVIROE: Enhance the Attractiveness of Computer Vision and Robotics in Europe” UTP VC Appointed as ASM Fellow UTP Vice Chancellor, Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hj Hashim was elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) during the Academy’s 19th Annual General Meeting. He was elected in the discipline of Engineering and Computer Sciences M ay 2014 Nov 2009 First IENA Exhibition UTP research teams bagged 4 medals; 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze at the International Trade Fair “Idea-Inventions-New Products” (IENA 2009) held in Nuremberg, Germany. UTP participated in the exhibition for the first time by submitting 4 research works for the competition MyRA 5-Star Grant UTP was the first and only private university in Malaysia that received 5-Star Rating under the Malaysian Research Assessment Systems (MyRA). It is considered one of the journal with highest impact factor in the world JUNE 2014 First International Patent Granted UTP received its first international patent granted from USA through the invention from Prof Ir Dr Ahmad Fadzil Mohamad Hani entitled “Methodology and Apparatus for Objective, Non-Invasive and In Vivo Assessment and Rating of Psoriasis Lesion Scaliness using Digital Imaging” Feb 2014 Highest Amount of Technofund Grant Received UTP became the recipient of the highest grant awarded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) in 2014 when it received RM1.132 million from TechnoFund grant for a single project. The award was for UTP’s “Rescue-i Monitoring System” project led by Assoc Prof Dr Ahmad Kamil Mahmood Feb 2013 First Technip Professorial Chair The establishment of the Technip Chair in Deepwater and Subsea Technology.
