ISSUE 17 | MARCH 2018 BEYOND BORDERS E D I T O R ' S S C R I B B L E Forgive me for my nonsense, as I also forgive the nonsense of those that think they talk sense. - Robert Frost I met her in Vienna. She was perhaps the best looking girl in our campus some ten years earlier. She could see that I was shocked to see her there. She looked well bred but her mind was gone. A good cup of coffee and meaningless pleasantries later, she told me her story. She was in love with a boy of another religion. When his parents came to know, they were livid and went straight to her family, bullied them and threatened them to a point where the family had no choice but to pack her off to their relatives’ homes where she spent some 5 years without any contact with outside world. She was banished from family functions and was not allowed to even step out into the open. When a proposal arrived from a family who lived in Austria, she was married off in a hurry. She hadn’t even seen the groom properly. In her words, what she was shown was a High school picture and the man turned out to 15 years her senior. She wanted to kill her lover’s parents for the way they ill treated her parents and made her life so miserable. She harbored those feelings for a long time till she came to know their current plight. "I know perhaps all the negative vibes I have sent would have created what they are going through now", she told me. What she told me a few minutes later surprised me. I have forgiven them now and I remember them in my prayers every day. I wished, at that point, that I could be her, so that I could forgive my demons and breathe out the venom within me.
