Antifreeze Water Bowls Heated 24 V drinking bowls - how do they work? Heating drinking water using the trough is so easy! You only need at least one heatable trough, a thermostat and a transformer (as 24-volt operation). Which transformer for how many bowls? Simple! If you only want to operate a drinking bowl with 80 Watt of power, then a 100 VA transformer will suffice. If you also want to connect a 24 V heating cable, simply add the power consumption (= Wattage) of the cable and this gives you the minimum power required for the transformer. Do not measure the transformer‘s power too precisely in order to have a buffer for extensions.
