Instead, the day has been designated as a fun day, where prospective teams and interested members of the public can come to try out the sport. Promoters Stephen 2 Racing will have several karts at the ELGP Kart Circuit and these will be available for interested parties to test their skills and try the sport out for a nominal fee to help defray expenses. Swallows defeated the visitors 36-28 in an exciting m at c h . Swallows coach Yongama Mkaza said he was not happy with the team’s performance. “Although we won the game, we could have done better.” The team had not adhered to its game plan with players playing as individuals and not as a team. “Moving forward, we will have to change the mentality of playing a one-man's game. We missed a lot of opportunities but it was our first game of the league.” Old Selbornians coach Alistair Alexander said he thought the team's performance was not bad considering that it was the first game of the season and that they had played against a team that had won the Eastern Cape Super 12 rugby tournament. “I think we lacked match fitness, but my boys did well being down at half time by almost 20 points. We must st i c k to our game plan, structures and keep possession.” Next week, Swallows will travel to Tsholomnqa to play against the Blacks RFC, and the Old Boys will face Fort Hare University. Run raises R10000 for Breath of Life THE RB Africa Wild Coast Challenge, a three-day stage run held every February over 110kms from Mazeppa Bay to Nahoon, has handed over funds raised to local non-profit organisation, Breath of L i fe . The East London NPO, which is a place of safety for abandoned babies, received R10000 from the event. Andrew Rielly, who completed his fourth RB Africa Wild Coast Challenge this year, and his wife, Michelle, are the house parents at the home. RB Africa also collected clothes and essential items that were donated directly to Breath of Life. Steers came on board and donated free burgers to runners and supporters at the finishing line of the run in return for a donation in the collection bin. The RB Africa Wild Coast Challenge is the ultimate bucket list event for trail enthusiasts. Next year brings an exciting new change as for the first time it will start at The Haven, Cwebe and end at Crawfords Cabins, Chintsa. The 120kms will be run over three days. FRIENDS IN NEED: Working on Fire rescuers assisted with the rescue of a tourist who had fallen down a cliff on Friday Picture: SUPPLIED Join in SPCA golf day fun SIVENATHI GOSA THE East London and King William’s Town SPCAs will join forces in hosting the second annual joint golf day on May 26 at the West Bank Golf Club. Organiser Margaret Pautz said the golf day was one of the bigger fundraising events hosted by the animal welfare body with proceeds to be used at both SPCAs. “The SPCA is always in constant need of funding and donations from the public for its very existence to provide a host of welfare and other services to the Buffalo City Municipality area as we operate without any government support or a s s i st a n c e . ” Hopes are high for 30 teams to take part with sponsors needed for the tees and greens. “We are appealing to businesses in both East London and King William’s Town to book a tee or green. They can put up company flags, signage, samples or whatever they need to advertise their businesses and to make it a fun day for the golfers.” Sponsorship of tees and greens is R750 and a clubhouse advertisement is R500. The teams may be entered in a four-ball alliance with the cost at R1 000 per team. “Some good prizes have been donated for the teams. Each team will also be given a platter of snacks for their team once they are back at the clubhouse. Prize-giving will follow after the last team is in.” SHADOW – I’ll follow you wherever you go.
