Nande’s chosen topic was ‘E x p l o r at i o n ’ and Aishwarya chose ‘The Three Lanes of Life’. Both girls learnt a lot during the competition Picture: SUPPLIED BEST BUDS: To m o r r ow l a n d Playschool pupils Onele Mgqebisa and Jayklien Ferguson take some time out from playing to pose for the camera Picture: SIMTEMBILE MGIDI Plans afoot for film fest for high schools WE HAD A BALL: Enjoying the Balmoral Girls’ Primary School fun run on Friday were, from left, Bronwyn Shone and Kaylee Meise Picture: SUPPLIED UNICORNS IN A ROW: Balmoral Girls’ Primary School pupils, from left, Kyleigh McKerry, Casey Williamson and Jaime Brown at the school’s fun run on Friday Picture: SUPPLIED SUDOKU NUMBER 17 - Medium ABONGILE SOLUNDWANA KOMANI producer and actor Thulani Koyana is set to start a film festival for local high schools. Koyana said the idea for the initiative was born after local filmmakers had indicated that they were struggling for support from government to compete in the Eastern Cape Film Festival (ECFF). Koyana will be working with KwaKomani, Luvuyo Lerumo, Nkwanca, Bulelani and WB Rubusana high schools. “We want to raise the number of filmmakers who will take part in the ECFF because there has to be an influx of filmmakers in Chris Hani District for us to receive government aid. “I thought what better way to do that than to introduce the film industry to pupils?” “This will empower the youth and it could be the start of a film industry in the province.” Koyana will be working with Grade 12 pupils but hopes to target pupils between grades 8 and 11 next year. “We shoot on Sundays because young people spend their time at school from Monday to Saturday. This is something they enjoy and it gives them a break from the books.” The film industry in the Eastern Cape needed growth. “We lack good filmmakers with quality productions. Film producers can only make good quality motion pictures when they spend a lot of time in production houses which are, unfortunately, not available. Not having the correct shooting equipment to produce the required quality is also a stumbling block.” He appealed to local businesses to assist the project with cameras, lights, wardrobe, catering and transportation. “There is a bigger dream behind this initiative. If we can set up a proper film school or arts schools it will become a socio-economic opportunity where jobs will be created. This is why artists flourish in places like Johannesburg – because they have the correct systems in place,” he added. Use some ginger ONE of the oldest remedies for nausea is the exotic and spicy root of ginger. Many pregnancies are marred by morning sickness. Over-the-counter medicines are helpful but not always. Try using ginger tea, sweets or biscuits (not flavoured but with real ginger). No more than just a few cups of refreshing sugar-free ginger tea daily is safe and can do the trick. Fortunately, if the pungent flavour is not part of your “cup of tea”, there are ginger capsules available. Even motion sickness can be remedied by this spice. This reputable root spice enhances appetite and eases indigestion. Scientific research has shown how effective it is at destroying intestinal parasites (this includes some types of worms). Ginger deserves just a small place in your diet if you experience weak digestion. Do you have vertigo with nausea and dizziness? Try this zesty spice. Adding a little fresh ginger to smoothies will boost your antioxidant i n t a ke . Let this spice get you into swing, as it may support weight loss as it is said to increase body temperature.
