As there are limited routes in and out of village we will start at a local pub a short distance away and return to the Mermaid garden for a BBQ, Drinks and Prize Giving. There will be a short part on foot in the middle before everyone drives back the village, drops their car off and makes their way to the pub. Wedding themed Scarecrow Competition (due to the Royal Wedding) Judging on the Sunday 17th with winners announced on Gala Day. We have changed the timing to give everyone more time to prep! Gala Weekend festivities Kick off on Friday night with the traditional Boules on the Green for Children and then Adults. Always a popular and hard-fought contest, we will have a BBQ and Bar running until late. The pitch isn’t exactly competition standard but it all adds to the fun and means novices and more experienced players have an even chance of winning. The Gala day itself will have something for everybody on the Green and opened by our Vicar Jason. Following feedback at the AGM we are planning more things for young people – a Gaming Bus, a Nail Bar and Chocolate/Sweet Tombola – and an Ellington’s Got Talent competition. More on this to follow. We are also looking at having a re-enactment group – great fun for children and adults alike. Plus many of the old favourites including the Classic Car Show. A late afternoon pause before everyone reconvenes with their chairs and tables for an evening party/BBQ/Bar. With three sets from a new band called Eclipse expect the usual late finish! We ask that you don’t reserve any spaces in the Marquees until 6pm at the earliest please. That isn’t the end of the Gala though: The Playing Fields Association put on an excellent Family Sports Day & BBQ on the playing field on Sunday – this year to be an inter village competition - and Gala events formally close with a Gala Service on the Church on Sunday evening. What is the Gala for and how can you get involved? The Ellington Gala is a fun and inclusive village event for all the family, run by a small volunteer committee group with many helpers. We couldn’t do it without everyone doing their bit. There is a relatively small group who do a lot but this year we would like to get more people involved and all we ask for is an hour of your time. Maybe you can help set up, prepare a stall or man a stall for an hour in the afternoon? Or flip some burgers or help behind the bar? Please contact Chris Stening ( or 07720 814342) with your preferences and we will find you a job that suits. The funds we raise are distributed to local groups - the Village Reserve Fund, Playing Field Committee, Village Hall, and Ellington Church. We have various pieces of equipment available to hire at reasonable rates during the year. These include Marquees, Candy Floss Machine, PA System, Till and folding tables. Please contact any of the committee to find out more. Facebook Group Finally, to stay up to date all throughout the year please join the “Ellington Village & Gala Info” Facebook group.
