You’ll notice some departments have a sole member
responsible for the move. That’s a lot of work for one person.
And we’re no spring chickens.
If you would like to help out moving our Thrift Shop, please
contact the member whose name is highlighted in blue as
department leader. Your offer will be appreciate more than you
can know!

Relocating can be overwhelming. It can be stressful. In the end,
however, it will be our reward as an organization because we strive to
“Transform Lives – Strengthen Community”. That’s the secret,
working together!
Our Thrift Shop Chair, department heads, teams and scores of others
have been organizing, planning, packing, creating lists, losing lists, (who
has not done that?) and making a ton of arrangements for our transition.
Packing the processing area will be done no later than Thurs. April 12th.
Packing the sales floor area and office will be done on Friday, April 13th.

Good Morning
Ladies!
I was just
visited by the
happiest little
girl I have
ever seen!!
She wanted to come show me her new outfit
she was able to get at Walmart this weekend!
She has on hot pink skirt and shirt and new
rainbow socks! She has the biggest smile on her
face and was telling the whole office about her
outfit and how she has an orange one and a
purple one just like it. She also got two dresses,
more socks and shoes! She described them
ALL in detail and how she was going to wear
them, etc. She has tomorrow's outfit picked out
already... her orange tutu skirt/shorts thing, new
shirt w/butterflies and some unicorn socks! She
was just beaming! This totally made my
day! Her teacher sent her up here because she
has been telling everyone all morning and
wanted to share it with me!
I thought I would pass this along to you all! I
hope it warms your hearts like it did mine. She
says her mom thinks she is a "fashionista"
now! :)

This warmed my heart! I remember this little
girl and her mom.
As I was unloading clothing from their cart I saw
the 3 “ tutus”. I asked, “ Do you wear these to
school?”
The answer was, “ Oh yes! They have shorts
attached to them!”
She was so excited! We just smiled and passed
them on to the cashier. Sounds like she was
the talk of the school the next day!

Following are the nine new members who will be pinned at the April meeting. In all the confusion of our
relocation, we were not able to collect their pictures. Please welcome them all!
My husband and I have
been married for 33 years. We have no children
except for 2 dogs and 2 cats. We currently live in
Round Rock West but own a home in Old Town
Georgetown, where we are planning to move.
I grew up in Amarillo, moved to Southern Calif for
8 years, Then Washington DC area until 1980.
We moved to Houston and eventually to Austin in
1994. I was in the IT field since the early 80s. I
currently hold a valid Texas Real Estate License
and am active In the business. Hobbies include
Stained Glass, Antiques, and gardening.
Originally from Waco, TX, I
have lived everywhere from Florida to Calif.
Professionally, I was a middle school math teacher
in Ft. Worth and more recently in Georgetown. I
have two amazing sons and three even more
amazing grandchildren. /I ebjoy line dancing and
Karaoke. When I found myself an empty nester in
'97 I ended up in Georgetown. I appreciate Sherry
Sorsdal for inviting me to the Assistance League
because I want to do some good things for our
community.
I grew up in a small town like
Georgetown in Ohio. I attended Ohio University,
married and lived in New Orleans. Professionally, I
lived in Houston for 31 years working as a
Regulatory Consultant in the oil/gas industry. My
daughter, Lauren and her family live in Cedar
Park...which is what brought me to Georgetown. I
love museums, art galleries, wine tastings and
browsing antique shops while traveling remote
country roads.
I'm originally from Tel Aviv,
Israel but have been a proud American citizen for
55 years. I arrived in NY City without friends,
spoke no English and had $7.50 in my pocket. I
AM the American Dream. As a jewelry designer/
manufacturer for over 60+ years, I had 2 stores in
Houston until my first retirement. A few years
later, I met Susan (Susan Cox...ALGA) 18 years
ago, we married and opened a wonderful
restaurant in a mountain tourist town in NC.
Together we have 4 children and 9 grandchildren.
I love to fish, play pickleball, go rv'ing and fly. I
speak five languages but am fluent in only three.
I'm hoping to be of help in the area of marketing
for ALGA.

My husband and I retired to Sun
City in 2016. We have four children and eight
grandchildren. I’m a native Texan, having grown
up in Southeast Texas.I received an elementary
education degree with a specialization in music.
My major instrument was flute. I was privileged to
play in a professional orchestra, our church
orchestra, and teach private music lessons for
many years. Also, I managed and worked as a
pharmacy technician in our family business.I look
forward to participating in this organization that
gives so much to our community. Thank you for
welcoming me to the Assistance League.

I grew up in the Detroit
area and have an MBA from Wayne State
University. We moved to McAllen, TX in '93 where
I worked as a Financial Analyst at a large hospital
system. I have three sons and one grandson. I
enjoy most water activities and am a certified
scuba diver. I love to read, take walks with my dog
"Bear' and travel. I moved to Sun City to be closer
to family in Ft Worth and, being single, I wanted a
community where it would be easier to make
friends and enjoy many activities.
I'm originally from Indiana and
have lived in New Jersey and various cities in
Texas. My wife Julie (an ALGA member) have
been married 50 yearrs and have 3 children and
6 grandchildren. Professionally, I'm a CPA and
have been CFO for public and private companies
and a large non-profit. I love golf, yardwork and
visiting the grandkids. Fortunately, our daughter
and her family (four grandkids) live in Austin.
Moved to Texas when I was 4
years old and lived in LaPorte,Texas. Went to
nursing school at Herman Hospital in Houston.
Moved to Marble Falls and met my wonderful
husband Jim and we have been married 30 years.
Together we have 4 kids , 8 grandchildren and I
great grandchild. Finished my nursing career in
Hospice and was a gift from God. Love to bake,
walk my dog, Gracie and volunteer at Legacy AL
where my 94 years old mom resides.

recipient should be an unsung
heroine/hero, a chapter member
for a significant time, having
given outstanding service in a
relatively inconspicuous way.

Kleinsmith Service Award.

OPERATION SCHOOL BELL:
chairman, Linda Ledbetter, reports that we
clothed 107 Georgetown, Jarrell and
Florence school children at our Operation
School Bell Spring Distribution event at
Walmart on March 24. The school nurse at
Jarrell Elementary also arrived that morning
and selected items to restock her clothes
closet at the school. A very nice, long
article about our Operation School Bell
program and the Assistance League of
Georgetown Area appeared in the Sun on
Wednesday, March 28, 2018, and we have
had positive response from it.
READING AND MORE:
chairman, Denise Pezek reports that April is
the last reading month of this year.
Assistance League has bought over 1,000
books for the reading lab. The Reading
Interventionist at Jarrell has asked that
when the second elementary school is
open, would it be possible to expand and
have another grade (either third or first)
read to us. Denise hopes to meet with the
principal in April to talk about this and the
new school plans. Doing a similar reading
program is being discussed with the
Florence Independent School District, who
have requested this.
SCHOLARSHIP:
chairman, Donna Provence, reports that we
have reviewed applications from all three
Georgetown high school campuses, and
selected some for review by anyone
interested in reviewing them. The date for
the review TBA.
ASSIST A TEACHER:
chairman Janice Bailey, reports that Pat
Holland has asked Assist a Teacher to join
her and speak at Kiwanis Club in May.
Kathy Nelson will represent the committee,
as Janice will be out of town.
NEW FRIENDS:
chairman Karen Ellsworth, Karen Ellsworth
reports that seven volunteers helped with
the March event at Autumn Leaves, and
thanks those who stepped up to lead in her
absence. The next party will take place on
April 17 at 2:00 p.m., with 1:50 as the arrival
time. She wants to thank all the awesome
volunteers for their participation.

Website Committee:
· On-line registration for golf tournament is
working. Thanks to Gretchen Schaeffer and
Larry Pruitt for their efforts in getting this
completed.
· New suite number has been updated on the
website.
· Gretchen Schaeffer, Larry Pruitt and myself
traveled to San Antonio on Tuesday, April 2 to
meet with Cheri Kassinger (Natioanal
Webmaster). We discussed website, online
registrations, pay pal, constant contact and many
other topics which will enhance our operating
knowledge of the website.
Marketing Tools:
· Bags: ALGA shopping bags will be ordered for
the new location grand opening.
· Promotional Pens: On hold until further
discussion.
Chamber of Commerce:
· Ambassador Program - Jean Babcock will
attend the Ambassador luncheon to be held first
Wednesday of the Month.
· Chamber Newsletter –
o Our golf tournament will continue to run until
the event is completed.
o Will add our move to new location
· Chamber Social Media – Continue to use along
with the newsletter.
· Ribbon Cutting – Will discuss with Christine at
the Chamber as to lead time needed to schedule
and time we would like to have. I suggest a Noon
Ribbon Cutting. Board to discuss as well as with
shop manager (Carol Palmer)
· After Hours Networking – Will discuss with
Christine at the Chamber as to lead time needed
to schedule an event at our new location. Board
to discuss along with shop manager (Carol
Palmer).
· Networking Breakfast – Jean Babcock, Ann
Smith and myself attended the Chamber
Networking Breakfast on Thursday, March 22 at
the Chamber of Commerce. It was a very
productive networking and had opportunity to
present our golf tournament and the Library/
ALGA Gala.
Hello Georgetown:
· Will run ad with our new location starting week
of 4/16.

need you to help with the actual move this coming weekend.(not
picking up heavy stuff).
Please check the list on page 3 of the Chatter to see who the
'lead' person is in each department. We will need help with 'setup'
so that we can open on Tuesday, April 17th.
The more 'hands' we have, the easier this job will be. Even just
an hour of your time will make a big difference.
