2018 Term 1 Ya Bana Village

The Village News ALL ABOUT LIFE AT Ya Bana Village TERM 1 2018 HIGHLIGHTS OF 2017 Gugs Mhlungu from 702 with our Village Father, George Msiza 702 and Spar Truck of Love 2017 was an unforgettable experience of kindness and generosity. On the day of the visit our children were ready and waiting since early in the morning. The team was greeted by our children - singing and dancing with excitement. They couldn't wait to see what the contents of the Truck of Love were. Ya Bana Village received wonderful donations of food, snacks, stationary and hygiene products. We received a beautiful Christmas tree and then every child was surprised with a gift each, adding even more festive joy to the day. STAY IN TOUCH Open Window Institute of Arts and Digital Sciences took these beautiful photos of our kids for the library. Literacy, reading for fun, books and our library were a main focus during 2017. Our project to establish a proper library commenced in August. The first step was organizing the books with the Dewey system, marking each book, sticking envelopes inside each book and completing old fashioned book cards and finally our library’s inventory. This is quite a task with our little library growing. We now have more than 1000 books. We were blessed with great donations from families, schools (in particular St Albans college) and the wonderful people of Exclusive Books in Woodlands. Our current library wish list: Setswana children’s fiction Issue cards and book pockets https://www.facebook.com/Ya-Bana-Village-for-the-children http://www.yabana.co.za Carina Goosen 082 900 4087 carinagoosen61@gmail.com UP’s Centre for Human Rights gave our kids a first: getting a gift from Father Christmas!
