coaching john peers Surrey Coaches Group Event Advanced Doubles Drills for Club Tennis featuring ATP World Tour Finals Champion John Peers n Tuesday 7th November, we were thrilled to run an event O for Surrey Coaches Group members on Advanced Doubles Drills for Club Tennis, featuring world number 4, current Australian Open Men’s Doubles Champion and recent winners of ATP World Tour Finals, John Peers. DATE Tuesday 7th November 2017 VENUE St George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club SESSION Advanced Doubles Drills for Club Tennis The session covered drills when serving and volleying, when both at the baseline, when returning and when you are the established net player, along with other tactical scenarios that affect doubles positioning. We were delighted that John Peers joined us in the session to share his expertise. John and his coach did a live session and John engaged with the coaches and took questions from the coaches around why he was doing certain drills. Keith Pullin, Talent and Performance Manager for the LTA South East then ran a session after John, which looked at how those drills could be adapted to suit various levels and sessions in club tennis. 30 surrey tennis magazine

coaching coaches group Surrey Coaches Group Local Support for Coaches in the County n October 2016, a survey was sent out to coaches in Surrey I to try and ascertain how our coaches rated the support from the County Association currently, and how coaches could be supported going forward. A key point that became clear was that there is a demand for local support right across Surrey. With that in mind, Surrey Coaches has been established, with the support of the County Association. This group aims to provide a wide range of benefits that support our coaches and strengthen their link with the County. These include: More local, subsidised CPD courses Access to subsidised First Aid Courses Forums that bring Surrey Coaches together to share best practice Heavily subsidised offers on balls and other coaching equipment Opportunity to purchase Surrey Coaches Group kit An opportunity to help coaches promote local competitions and job opportunities. Because the Surrey Coaches Group is relatively new, it is constantly evolving and we hope there will be further benefits going forward. If coaches have ways, or know of anyone that can help expand the offer, then this is encouraged. With the work and support of 3 of our senior coaches in the County (Penny Batchelor, David Lovejoy and Matt Trevail), we aim to listen to the coaches in the group and ask the question – What Can We do to Support you as a Coach in Surrey? For an annual membership of £10, this is a great opportunity to be part of a local network of coaches and have your say on how we can support. To sign up and join, please go to our website, where you will find a link to the membership form. www.surrey.tennis/surreycoaches-group surrey tennis magazine 31
