News first aid Surrey Tennis organises First Aid Course for Club Volunteers at Leatherhead LTC ollowing an expression of interest from a number of clubs/venues F in getting their volunteers trained in First Aid, Surrey Tennis took the initiative and decided to set up and fully fund a First Aid Course. Due to the limited number of spaces, we invited clubs/ venues to nominate a club volunteer to attend, who were accepted on a firstcome-first serve basis. We had 10 venues being represented at the 6 hour course, which took place at Leatherhead LTC on Saturday 24th June. At this stage Surrey Tennis would like to thank Leatherhead for allowing us to use their clubhouse and facilities to run the course. In particular, the County would like to thank Leatherhead club chairman, Nigel Turner for his support in setting up the event and ensuring everyone felt welcome on the day. The course gave volunteers who are down at their venue regularly a fantastic opportunity to become a qualified first aider. We had First Aid Instructor Colette Ball, who was covering the following: Role & Responsibilities of the First Aider Casualty communication & treatment priority Legislation First Aid Kits Bleeding and Bandaging Burns Epilepsy and other major illnesses Minor & non-life threatening injuries The feedback from attendees was extremely positive. Here are a couple of testimonials: Volunteer from Ash Tennis Club: “I’m sure I will be echoing what you have already received... But I’d like to thank Collette, Leatherhead TC and Surrey 8 surrey tennis magazine

wilson surrey leagues Captain’s guide Helping you to organise your Surrey league team. Tennis for putting on such an excellent session. It was not only enjoyable, but very informative, and delivered in a fantastic way. In addition it’s always great to meet with other tennis clubs outside of our immediate area…” Volunteer from Capel Tennis Club: “I thoroughly enjoyed the course and we think we learnt a great deal. Colette was a brilliant instructor. Thank you so much for arranging the course - I hope other Club Members will be able to attend one in the future.” It is great when clubs/venues in Surrey come together for courses like this, as one of my key aims as Tennis Development Officer for the County is to get clubs working together more and communicating with one another. As indicated we hope to run more First Aid Courses for club volunteers in the future. Surrey Tennis believes it is important to train up club volunteers where possible. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and we think we learnt a great deal. Captain’s Guide We have introduced a BRAND NEW captain’s guide for the Winter 2017/18 Wilson Surrey League season.
