Sewage Treatment, Boreholes and Soakaways For over 30 years we have designed, supplied, installed and maintained bespoke sewage treatment systems and constructed water supply boreholes and soakaways. H.D. Services Ltd. is a small family run company based in Buckinghamshire and operating throughout the South East. We specialise in the construction and development of boreholes, soakaways, the installation of independent sewage treatment systems and open-loop ground source heat pump installations. Founded in 1984 the company initially specialised in cable percussion drilling and sewage treatment installations. In 2009 we expanded into the renewable heating sector, achieving regional success in both 2015 and 2016 winning the RHI installer of the Year Award at the Green Deal and ECO Awards. We offer a one stop solution for self builders, developers, contractors, consultants and architects, providing waste and drainage solutions, independent water supplies and renewable heating options – all specifically tailored to individual needs and suited to the geology of the South East. Our bespoke HD-SM plant is designed to meet the needs of the individual clients and comply with strict legislation in regards to discharge. We provide support and advice in dealing with the EA and can help in securing any necessary permits and/or licences required. For more than a decade our bespoke sewage treatment systems were unique in that they had no mechanical or electrical moving parts beneath the cover and were made of durable and tough polypropylene. Recently Klargester have launched a sewage treatment system with similar properties, which is mass produced and hence meets EU regulations and is cost effective for the client. As this system now meets what we consider to be important design criteria we are happy to install them. We have a positive relationship with Klargester and are a preferred installer. All our boreholes are constructed using the cable-tool percussion method - preferred by the Environment Agency (EA) when drilling the chalk aquifer - and are logged with the BGS to ensure that they are not at risk from derogation. Our underpinning ethic is that we want to protect the aquifers from which we make our living. Our portfolio includes the National Trust, RSPB, various county and borough councils as well as hundreds of domestic clients and estates. Ground Source Heat Pumps Open-loop ground source heat pump (GSHP) installations utilise ground water as a heat source. A system will pump groundwater from a borehole directly to the heat pump unit where the heat is extracted. The water is then returned to the aquifer from where it was abstracted, meaning that this system is non-consumptive. As ground water is utilised, there is the option of a potable water supply (subject to analysis and suitable filtration) and a grey water supply which can be used for garden irrigation. If diverted to a buried harvesting tank, this water has the opportunity to regain heat prior to returning to the aquifer from which it was extracted, thus reducing the risk of temperature pollution. While some closed-loop GSHP’s can be converted to utilise water as a heat source, efficiency of the system will be reduced as they are not specifically designed for this purpose. The heat pumps we install are manufactured by a British company in Devon and are fully MCS accredited. We have been actively involved in the development and configuration of the new unit, developing user guides for the benefit of end users and installation requirement manuals to support the other trades involved in the installation. All our heat pump installations are designed to be RHI eligible and we provide support and advice in applying for the domestic Renewable Heat Incentive. We are members of the Ground Source Heat Pump Association (GSHPA), Renewable Energy Association (REA), National Custom and Self Build Association (NaCSBA). Our experience of other systems means we can offer servicing packages to most domestic installations All are installations comply with Environment Agency requirements. Cable-tool percussion drilling is the method preferred by the Environment Agency when drilling the chalk aquifer, this method is clean and causes minimal risk of contamination of the aquifer and fissures. Provided the hydro-geology at the site is suitable, up to 20m 3 of water can be abstracted per day without the need for a licence.
