Stone Federation Great

Stone Federation Great Britain – Your Independent Natural Stone Source Point Are you looking to use natural stone in a project? Marble bathrooms, limestone cladding, sandstone landscaping, granite worktop or slate roofing. If any of these apply to you then let us introduce ourselves, we are Stone Federation Great Britain, the official trade association for the natural stone industry. We have over 100 years’ experience in connecting architects, designers, specifiers and clients with the finest stone professionals. We are passionate about promoting natural stone as the building material of choice as well as positioning ourselves as an independent source point for the architectural and design industries. How can we help you? There are a number of ways in which we can help resource, connect, advise and inspire you throughout the project, here are just a few examples. Connection We have a membership made up of over 240 companies covering all areas of the industry, including: stone suppliers, quarry operators, heritage specialists, design consultants, sealant and adhesive manufacturers, contractors, technical consultants, geologists, stone masons and fixing experts. Each of our members are vetted and approved by the Federation as well as having access to our range of training courses, publications, data sheets and technical helplines to enable 86 SPECIFIERS JOURNAL them to stay at the forefront of the industry. Much of what we do involves working with architects, designers, specifiers and clients to connect them with the best company for the project in hand. The ‘Search for a Member’ tool on our website allows users to narrow down the query to specific disciplines such as cladding or conservation, as well as specifying where the project is and the type of stone being used. Getting the right firm for the project can be crucial to its success, and Stone Federation prides itself on being a resource that hundreds of leading architectural and design firms, local authorities and clients return to time after time. We have recently launched a number of exciting initiatives aimed at providing an even greater resource to architects, designers, clients and specifiers looking to find the right stone firm. The Ethical Stone Register will provide users with a list of natural stone firms that ensure that all the materials they sell are ethically sourced. This provides you with the peace of mind that the firm you are using is not only vetted and approved by the industry’s officiall trade association, but

that the material they provide you with is not being sourced to the detriment of others. Another similar resource we’re just about to launch is the Stone Heritage Register which will act an invaluable reference point for heritage architects and organisations, local authorities and property owners. The Register will list all the Federation members working within this sector along a breakdown of key metrics such as contract size, training level of workforce and specialities. The Federation’s aim in all is this is to not just provide a large list of companies, but connect you with the best firms for the project in hand, whether that be a large commercial cladding project, a small domestic interior or anything in-between. Advice Natural stone provides the specifier with wide range of choice with regards to colour, texture and finish. It can also be used on almost any application, from large commercial cladding projects to small domestic kitchens and anything in between. Our technical experts advise architects, designers and developers on a range of issues from correct stone selection and fixing requirements through to British and European Standards guidance. Alongside our free technical helpline, we also produce a range of publications that look at a number of key topics within the industry including: natural stone flooring, countertops, wet rooms, swimming pools, cleaning and maintenance, repair and restoration, slip resistance and cladding. Our range of technical resources enables you to be wellinformed at every stage of the project, from stone selection at the design stages through to guidance surrounding cleaning the finished product. The Stone Federation CPD programme has already been utilised by hundreds of leading architectural and design practices up and down the country. Our presentation titles provide an impartial and informative look at a range of topics including Selecting the Correct Stone, Interiors, Repair & Restoration, Landscaping and Cladding. As a member of the RIBA CPD Providers Network, the Federation have been delivering presentations for many years and put great value on the opportunity to work closely with architectural and design practices across many projects. Inspiration We pride ourselves on being both a source of information and inspiration for architects, SPECIFIERS JOURNAL 87
