The Blygold coating

The Blygold coating provides a long lasting corrosion protection to Air Source Heat Exchangers THE PROBLEM Heat exchangers are subject to severe corrosion because of their construction, which usually combines dissimilar metals and because of the volume of polluted air passing through them. Corrosion and pollution of heat exchangers will directly affect the performance of the HVAC system. The heat exchanger must be sealed off from the environment in a manner that will not reduce its heat transfer or cause a pressure drop. When this is accomplished, the cooling capacity will remain intact and energy consumption can be controlled. THE SOLUTION The Blygold coating provides a long lasting corrosion protection to heat exchangers, without affecting heat transfer and pressure drop. The system can be applied in the Blygold factory prior to installation or retrospectively on-site. The heat conductive pigmentation in the coating is oriented in such a way that it creates a very high chemical resistance at a low layer thickness. The first is a new range of Detach Pro motorised valves – the second generation in its popular Detach product line. The Detach Pro range is available in both two- and threeport configurations. Valves with compression are available in 22mm and 28mm sizes, supported by female BSP in ¾”, 1” and 1¼”. The valves offer a power on light, detachable head and detachable cable. However, the detachable cable has been upgraded to a mechanical crimp connector instead of the previous screwed terminal connector. While a 1.2-metre cable is supplied, where it is replacing an existing EPH Controls Detach motorised valve, a cable harness is available to link the Detach to Detach Pro. Other changes to the motorised valve included an improved auxiliary switch and improved valve bodies. The second new product from EPH Controls is the R Series hardwired timeswitch and programmers. These have been specifically designed for use with a British system standard six-pin universal backplate. The range includes the R17 one-zone timeswitch and the R27 & R27-HW two zone programmer HW/CH. Functionality has been improved to make setting and control easier with long-term memory backup, a keypad lock and unlock facility, together with selectable frost protection where required. The blue backlight mode selection makes setting the timeswitch and programmer straightforward with all modes selectable without the need to remove the clock. Both the timeswitch and the programmer come with factory settings for 24-hour, sevenday and five/two-day modes. Simple to follow instructions provide boost function, advance function and holiday mode, while there is also the facility to operate a master reset. You and your clients may have just accepted that staff will be sick from time to time, but if you look a bit closer at the impact it has on UK business as a whole, you may want to re-think that strategy. Statistics show that staff absences hit the UK economy to the tune of £14bn a year and that the cost of absence averages out at £975 per employee (source: The CBI/Pfizer ‘Fit for Purpose – absence and workplace health survey 2013’). The survey also found that the most common cause of short-term absences were minor illnesses including colds etc. and that work related illness or injury accounted for a quarter of all staff absences. The good news is that most common viruses and bacteria are airborne and there is much we can do to eliminate these pesky microbes and cut staff absentee rates. While there is no way to avoid an employee picking up a bug from outside of work, you can greatly reduce the risk of that bug being spread within the workplace. Eliminating the airborne infection is the key to cutting incident rates which is where air purification technology becomes your front line of defence. Photo-catalytic oxidation converts VOCs into benign constituents such as carbon dioxide and water without wearing out or losing its effectiveness. This has huge advantages over chemical adsorbents, which can rapidly absorb large quantities of toxic fumes, but quickly become saturated and slowly release pollutants back into the air stream. Ultraviolet germicidal air disinfection Kills airborne germs on contact and destroys viruses and VOCs too small to be caught by HEPA filters. As in all systems, it’s vitally important the correct level of purification is selected for the job and that filters and systems are regularly maintained to ensure continued effectiveness.
