That’s a Wrap! How

That’s a Wrap! How Matilda’s Blanket is revolutionising IWI A revolutionary internal wall insulation (IWI) system is attracting the attention of specifiers, asset managers and architects for its effectiveness in addressing cold, damp and energy inefficiency in housing stock and commercial premises across the UK. Matilda’s Blanket, a highly effective and unobtrusive insulation system for hardto-treat and solid wall properties has been welcomed by housing providers, installers and tenants alike, thanks to its practical and efficient installation process – typically taking less than a day to fit per room, ready for paint, wallpaper or tiles. Bespoke off-site production and a finish that requires no plastering or wet trades, mean that Matilda’s Blanket can be fitted with little waste and disruption to householders – so no need to move out while work is completed. The Matilda’s Blanket system decouples the warm interior of a property from cold external walls by creating a low emissivity void. The new slimline insulated panels also significantly improve airtightness. This patented system removes the problems caused by cold bridging to deliver a significant improvement in the thermal and acoustic performance of treated rooms, whilst addressing problems with damp and mould. Despite measuring only 60% thickness of traditional IWI (including the sealed void), Matilda’s Blanket is also extremely strong and durable, acting just like a normal wall. The Blanket boasts contact loading in excess of 70kg – more than sufficient for hanging kitchen or bathroom fittings, as well as being able to withstand up to 15 times more impact than standard plasterboard. Allen Construction Consultancy, a firm of building specifiers working across the UK, has used Matilda’s Blanket during a successful retrofit project commissioned by London Borough of Ealing Council. Its Director Paul Quinney said: “I was genuinely surprised by how clean and tidy the installation of Matilda’s Blanket was. All the panels were made to measure and needed no trimming, so we also saved on waste and mess. We’re committed to reducing our environmental impact, so the less waste on our projects, the better. Having seen the results and the speed with which the Blanket was fitted, Ealing Council has already asked us to submit a proposal for another larger retrofit insulation project.” Sean McLaughlin, MD of Matilda’s Planet who produce the Blanket, said: “We’re delighted with the response from specifiers like Allen Construction Consultancy, who are already recommending the solution to their public sector clients. Matilda’s Blanket is committed to helping landlords up and down the country to address the energy efficiency in their housing stock and other buildings.” The success of the project in Ealing led to a shortlisting for Matilda’s Blanket at this year’s London Build Awards, where the product was nominated by the specifier for its innovation in the field. More recently, the Blanket has also been shortlisted at the Building and Energy Efficiency Awards, following another successful project with New Charter Housing Trust in Tameside, Greater Manchester. SureCav Limited are pleased to announce the forthcoming release of SureCav®25 Yes! Just 25mm deep. SureCav®25 allows for more room in the cavity for insulation, thus enhancing the thermal performance of the building envelope and still ensures a 25mm clear cavity. SureCav Limited has over 10 years experience in the manufacturing and supplying of the successful SureCav®50 cavity backing board that has fully met customer expectations. Cavities are clean and free from moisture, wall ties are free from mortar contamination and you get a quicker, cheaper build! Using the simple SureCav® installation procedure, the cavity becomes protected by an envelope of plastic sheet that also provides an excellent surface for the construction of the outer masonry leaf. For a 125mm overall cavity width, made up of 100mm board insulation and a 25mm clear cavity using SureCav®25 you could achieve ‘U’ values as low as 0.16 W/m²K. SureCav®25 Guaranteed 25mm clear cavity! The new SureCav®25 is a 25mm deep version of the popular SureCav®50 Cavity Spacer Backing Board. SureCav®25 proves to be a cheaper option to backing blocks and protects from wind driven rain in all exposure zones. Suitable for brick, flint, stone and all masonry finishes, SureCav®25 forms a “wall” of plastic to stop water penetration and guarantees clean and mortar free cavities. In severe exposure zones, SureCav®25 provides the option of an additional 50mm insulation to bring down ‘U’ values even further as the BBA (cert.no. 04/4154) allows just a 25mm clear cavity using SureCav®25 instead of the normally required 75mm. All the properties of SureCav® you’ve come to rely on…but now with a guaranteed 25mm clean and moisture free clear cavity space! Discover a better way of cavity wall construction!
