Pudsey’s pals Two Leigh organisations have been awarded more than £220,000 by BBC Children in Need for supporting young people. Both Embrace Wigan and Leigh and Leigh Youth will be given a grant of £113,672 to help support disadvantaged children and young people with additional behavioural needs. And Leigh Youth and Community Development Trust will receive £108,482 to enable youngsters with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to enjoy sport and physical activity sessions. Children will be in a safe and secure environment that encourages them to make new friends, develop their confidence and self-esteem and improve their teamwork, balance and coordination skills. Hannah Forbes, Trust Manager at Leigh Youth and Community Development Trust said: “We are delighted to have been awarded with this funding from BBC Children in Need which will enable us to support children and young people in the area with ASD. “It will help to remove the barriers that they face when it comes to taking part in physical and sports activities.” FREE PICKUP & DELIVERY BBC Children in Need chief executive Simon Antrobus added: “A huge thank you to our generous supporters. “The money makes it possible for us to fund much needed projects like these, making a positive difference to young lives.” Children in Need is currently providing more than £429,000 for five projects across the borough.

11 Barrel of laughs If you’re up for a night of side splitting, The Comedy Club in Golborne should be your next stop. Now in its seventh year, The Comedy Club at Golborne Sports and Social Club is on the last Friday of every month. The club has seen some of the best comics in the country perform, including: Joy Lycett; Justin Moorhouse; Gary Delaney; Tom Stade. The nights have proved a huge success so far. Gigs are always the last Friday of the month except for December when there are two Christmas specials. Over the years the club has also raised hundreds of pounds for local and national charities, doing their bit for the community too. Tickets are £12 in advance, or £14 on the door, but you can also get £10 tickets if bought a month in advance, and there are special offers for large parties.
