Page 4 April Edition Seven Lakes News Flight of the White Pelicans On Monday, March 13, Ed Emery, a Seven Lakes West resident and member of the Lake Auman Sports Club, spotted a group of white pelicans on Lake Auman. Ed, a “birder” himself, made a call then moving to look West, they saw in amazement a fl ock of 20 white pelicans, fl ying right over them. The fl ock circled the Lake, but inclement weather kept them from leaving the area. Susan was able to get some photos of the fl ock – in fl ight. Susan, who does some work for the State of North Carolina, contacted the Seven Lakes West Landowners Association. The Association offi ce then contacted David Lamon, President of the Lake Auman Sports Club, who contacted Susan. Dave met with Susan and drove to Mace Point on the Lake, trying to spot the pelicans. Looking East, Tuesday, March 14, the weather cleared up so that the fl ock of white pelicans were on their way – West of Lake Auman. In the past, there is one other documented sighting of 2 white pelicans in Moore County. A few years ago, they were sighted in Woodlake.
