CATCH A FLIGHT

EXPLORE CLASSIC PUNTA
A distinctive attraction and must-see
for tourists are the caverns in Punta
Ballena (a Sea Museum at La Barra) and
the artistic Casa Pueblo; a museum and
hotel built by Carlos Paez Vilaró
perched on a cliff. Locals recommend
riding around on a bicycle to stop for
photo-ops. Ralli Museum is worth a
visit too. It boasts a selection of modern
and contemporary Latin American art,
alongside European Modernist and
Post-Modernist pieces. You can’t leave
Punta del Este without seeing “The
Hand” designed by Chilean artist Mario
Irrazábal. The ominous sculpture is a
landmark, with five gigantic fingers
rising from the sand, at the beginning of
Brava Beach. Swing by the market
nearby for souvenirs and local food.
