HOTEL REVIEW Six Senses Zighy Bay is the idyllic beach resort you dream of getting away to. Modelled after a typical village, the resort comprises 82 villas built from crude rock in a square-shaped form. Check-in, sip a thirst-quenching date smoothie and jump on a buggy to head to your room. In each villa, the element of wood and stone is prevalent, with a neutral theme taking you from the living room, right through to the bedroom, bathroom in the far corner, outdoor rain showers, and cabana and private pool. The rustic-style villa also boasts reading material, a chess board/coffee table and the usual in-room amenities, including a pillow menu – the antisnore pillow is a must for your partner, if you suffer from interrupted sleep thanks to your other half. Most days are most likely to be spent by the pool, beach or at the lounge and bars. THE PREMISES While our stay was just for two nights, it’s not unusual for guests to stay a week or more. Our tour began on personalised push-bikes, parked right outside the villa, heading off to the outdoor infinity pool, lounge area, 2,500 square metre organic garden and the salt water pool. For an alternative to the gym, adventurous guests can get a workout in at the Jungle gym. Since we wanted to do nothing but unwind, we opted out of any strenuous activity and cooking classes, and chose to spend our days sunbathing. This getaway is one where you take in the beauty of every element of nature in your surroundings, breathe in fresh air and unwind with the sounds of bird chirping. 66 EQUITY

HOTEL REVIEW DINE AT… The breakfast buffet is served at the resort’s allday dining restaurant, Spice Market, where you can indulge in everything from crab cake eggs benedict with mashed avocado, to ramen and shakshouka. A wide selection of fresh fruit juices, smoothies and dried fruit are available – made with produce from the resort's farm – alongside fresh bread, cheese, fruit – they serve some of the most delicious mango and papaya – and chocolate crepes. Lunch is best enjoyed at Summer House, where you can tuck into a lentil soup and mezze. Culinary experiences are aplenty with Sense on The Edge offering a setmenu on a mountaintop, dinner in the Wine Cellar and Shua Shack for an authentic Arabic dining experience. We chose the latter to experience the Bedouin dining experience and tuck into Shuwa (slow-cooked lamb prepared under the ground for over six hours). The meal begins with fresh hummous, dates and an assortment of spreads with fresh bread, followed by a viewing of the lamb dug out from beneath the surface. This meat is then broken into pieces, served with rice. There’s only one sitting, at 7:30pm, with the experience taking place on Mondays and Fridays – make sure to book ahead.
