Foreword from the Dean “The Faculty of Science and IT (FSIT) is a centre for research and education at the undergraduate and graduate levels with four departments namely Department of Computer and Information Science (DCIS) and Department of Fundamental and Applied Science (DFAS), Department of Geosciences (GEO) and Department of Management & Humanities (DM&H). Currently, the faculty is composed of more than 150 faculty members (full professor and associate professors, senior lecturer and lecturer), with more than 20 post-doctorate, headed by Associate Professor Dr Jafreezal Jaafar. On the teaching and learning aspect, the faculty aims to produce well-rounded graduates who are well trained in their respective disciplines as practitioners, technopreneurs, and researchers either in industries, universities, and public sector. The academic programmes at FSIT focus on science and computing with an enrollment of about 1000 undergraduates and 200 postgraduates. FSIT has a number of computing and science laboratories that are devoted to education and research in the various areas of interest for the departments. Through its library, it provides access to an outstanding collection of online/printed journals. The faculty members have established themselves internationally in information technology, information systems, mathematics, physics, chemistry, geosciences, and management & humanities with a balance of fundamental and applied research emphasising on interdisciplinary research that stimulates basic research, technology transfer and collaboration skewing towards oil and gas industry. Hundreds of papers have been published each year in the impact journals and conference proceedings. The members appear in many exhibitions and conferences holding steering committees and reviewers of prestigious scientific events. Numerous prizes and accolades have been earned by the members for their scientific and educational activities. The members are strong in their collaborations with the industry, universities as well as research institutions within Malaysia and abroad.
