Karah, Lenggong, Perak Participants: FASD Staff Assoc Prof Dr Balbir Singh Mahinder Singh Dr Zulkifli Merican Aljunid Merican Dr M Shuaib M Saheed Dr Dennis Ling Chuan Ching Students Applied Physics Students Others Datin Nazrin Aneeza Nazaruddin (PETRONITA Vice President 1) Dato' Haji Mohd Tarmizi Idris (Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri Kenering) Harulnizam Abd Rahman (Pengarah JAKOA Negeri Perak dan Kedah) Professor Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib (Acting Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS Azmah Azman (Head of PETRONITA's Welfare Committee) The Wives and Women Staff Association of PETRONAS, PETRONITA, in a joint-effort with Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and Jabatan Kemajuan Orang Asli (JAKOA), recently completed the handover of a solar farm consisting of 20 photovoltaic panels to the residents of Kampung Sg. Karah near Lenggong, Perak. The solar farm is expected to generate 5 kW of electricity for 80 Orang Asli residents of the village who otherwise have to rely heavily on candles and kerosene lamps. Centre for Foundation Studies Dean and FASD lecturer, Assoc Prof Dr Balbir Singh headed the team from UTP which provided the technical know-how during the construction of the solar farm. The team comprises of various faculty members, administrative staffs and students from UTP. Notable team members from DFAS includes Dr Zulkifli Merican Aljunid Merican, Dr M Shuaib M Saheed and Dr Dennis Ling Chuan Ching. They were joined by Applied Physics students who joined as volunteers. Assoc Prof Dr Balbir expressed his gratitude towards PETRONITA for providing the students with hands-on experience to apply the skills that they have learned to help others in less fortunate circumstances. The program at Kampung Sg. Karah is the second project under the Rural Electrification Project by PETRONITA where similar photovoltaic cells were also installed in Kampung Batu 20, near Tapah, Perak back in 2016. 20 Febuary 2018 International UTP-UP Collaborative Research Grant Award Organiser UTP -Universitas Pertamina Venue New R&D Building, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS Participants: Presenter Dr Wahyu Agung Pramudito FASD Staff Dr Mohamed Shuaib Mohamaed Saheed Others Prof Ir Dr M Shahir Liew Assoc Prof Dr Gunawan Witjaksono Djaswadi (Electrical & Electronic Engineering Department) Assoc Prof Dr Abdul Rahim Othman (Mechanical Engineering Department) Dr Nonni Soraya Sambudi (Chemical Engineering Department) Dr Kiki Adi Kurnia (Chemical Engineering Department) Five researchers from UTP, including 1 lecturer from DFAS, have recently been awarded with grants totaling U$D25,000 from Universitas Pertamina (UP). UPs’ Institute of Research, Community Development and Innovation Director, Dr Wahyu Agung Pramudito, presented the award to Assoc Prof Dr Gunawan Witjaksono Djaswadi (Electrical & Electronic Engineering Department), Assoc Prof Dr Abdul Rahim Othman (Mechanical Engineering Department), Dr Nonni Soraya Sambudi (Chemical Engineering Department), Dr Mohamed Shuaib Mohamaed Saheed (Fundamental & Applied Sciences Department) and Dr Kiki Adi Kurnia (Chemical Engineering Department) at the new R&D building in UTP on the 20th February. Dr Mohamed Shuaib Mohamaed Saheed was awarded with a grant worth U$D5,000 for the project, "Development of Flexible and Stretchable Hybrid 3D Graphene-MXenes based Strain Sensor for Oil Pipeline Monitoring". The project is expected to be completed in 12 months’ time. The grant is under The International UTP-UP Collaborative Research Grant which is a result of an MOU signing between the two institutions last year. FSIT NEWSLETTER | 9
