The Owl Eye Magazine Issue 9

Who Cooks For You? By

Who Cooks For You? By Katy Jo Turner This is a great book for young kids. It is the story of Howie, the Barred Owl who is tired of finding his own breakfast and just wants someone else to do it! His adventures with other animals in the woods are funny and genuine. The illustrations by Melissa Marroquin are also fantastic and eye candy for any aged reader. To find out more about this book visit: www.KatyJoTurner.com/ The illustrative owl art of Morgan Warren is now available in 2018 calendars! These beautiful owl drawings are inspired by the landscape of Morgan’s home, Vancouver Island. This calendar is a wonderful collection of beautiful owl art. Price: $20 Canadian plus taxes if applicable To Order: please contact Morgan at: mmorganwarren@gmail.com or message her on Facebook. Letter from the Editor Since our last issue, many things in the Editor’s life have changed and caused a great delay in the coming out of this next issue. For this I do apologize, but must say that the Owl Eye will be coming out only bi-yearly after this. I know it is a disappointment to some of our readers, but some things in life cannot be helped. I hope that our readers will continue to enjoy the stories, art, and literature that the Owl Eye includes in future issues. This issue’s Featured Owl is the Northern Pygmy. This owl is tiny, but a very ferocious predator! Anthony Bucci does a great job photographing this owl as you will see on pages 6-15. I particularly enjoy the one with the piercing stare! Congratulations to our Owl Art Call for Artists Contest Winners! We had a great turnout of art and there was some delibertation of placement, but in the end all the judges agreed on the final decision. Thank you to Sham Jolimie and Elias Martin again for their expert opinions. Andrzej Rabiega - First Place, Carol Klassen - Second Place, and Mary C. Monson - Third Place! In future I would love to have more of these owl art inspired contests. If anyone reading this has any other owl related contest ideas please send them to me at lisa@theowleyemagazine.com. I’d love to hear what the readers have to say! Thanks again for being patient with me and enjoy the Winter/Spring 2018 issue.
