<strong>How</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>Fix</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Error</strong> <strong>If</strong> “<strong>HP</strong> <strong>Pr<strong>in</strong>ter</strong> <strong>is</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Error</strong> <strong>State</strong>”?<br />

When a pr<strong>in</strong>ter <strong>is</strong> <strong>in</strong> error state, it won’t let you <strong>to</strong> even if you have already struggled with steps like<br />

un<strong>in</strong>stallation and re<strong>in</strong>stallation of it, unplugged it, turned it off and <strong>the</strong>n on aga<strong>in</strong>, checked for driver updates<br />

Solution 1: Run troubleshooter<br />

It may prove a good solution for you <strong>to</strong> run pr<strong>in</strong>ter troubleshooter <strong>to</strong> fix pr<strong>in</strong>ter problems.<br />

Troubleshoot<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>If</strong> you’re unable <strong>to</strong> connect <strong>to</strong> your pr<strong>in</strong>ter <strong>in</strong> W<strong>in</strong>dows 10 or pr<strong>in</strong>t any document, follow <strong>the</strong> below described<br />

steps <strong>in</strong> order <strong>to</strong> try <strong>to</strong> fix <strong>the</strong> problem:<br />

1. Verify that your pr<strong>in</strong>ter <strong>is</strong> plugged <strong>in</strong><strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> power supply and it <strong>is</strong> turned on.<br />

2. For Wired pr<strong>in</strong>ters, check <strong>the</strong> USB connection and for wireless pr<strong>in</strong>ters, check <strong>the</strong> wireless<br />

connection.<br />

3. <strong>If</strong> none of <strong>the</strong> above steps seem work<strong>in</strong>g, download and run <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g troubleshooter.<br />

4. <strong>If</strong> <strong>the</strong> problem still pers<strong>is</strong>ts, it may be possible that your pr<strong>in</strong>ter needs a new driver. Right-click (or<br />

press and hold) <strong>the</strong> Start but<strong>to</strong>n, and select Device Manager, Expand <strong>Pr<strong>in</strong>ter</strong>s option for f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g your<br />

pr<strong>in</strong>ter <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> l<strong>is</strong>t. On your l<strong>is</strong>ted pr<strong>in</strong>ter name, right-click (or press and hold) and select Update Driver.<br />

Advanced<br />

<strong>If</strong> <strong>the</strong> previous troubleshoot<strong>in</strong>g process <strong>is</strong> not work<strong>in</strong>g for you, its spooler files may need <strong>to</strong> be cleared and<br />

spooler services may need for be<strong>in</strong>g started.<br />

1. Type Services <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> search box on <strong>the</strong> taskbar, <strong>the</strong>n choose <strong>the</strong> search result of <strong>the</strong> same name.<br />

2. In <strong>the</strong> Services l<strong>is</strong>t, double-click or double-tap Pr<strong>in</strong>t Spooler. Select S<strong>to</strong>p > OK.<br />

3. Type %WINDIR%\system32\spool\pr<strong>in</strong>ters <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> search box on <strong>the</strong> taskbar, select <strong>the</strong> file folder <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> search results and delete all files <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> folder.


4. Search for and open Services aga<strong>in</strong><br />

5. Double-click or double-tap Pr<strong>in</strong>t Spooler <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Services l<strong>is</strong>t.<br />

6. Select Start, and make sure that Au<strong>to</strong>matic <strong>is</strong> selected <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Startup Type l<strong>is</strong>t, and <strong>the</strong>n select OK.<br />

Solution 2: <strong>Pr<strong>in</strong>ter</strong> <strong>in</strong> error state<br />

There may be a problem with <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>ter itself if your pr<strong>in</strong>ter’s status shows “<strong>Pr<strong>in</strong>ter</strong> <strong>in</strong> error state”.<br />

1. Make sure that your pr<strong>in</strong>ter <strong>is</strong> turned on and it <strong>is</strong> connected <strong>to</strong> your PC by cable or Wi-Fi. Make sure<br />

that <strong>the</strong> cover <strong>is</strong>n’t open, a paper <strong>is</strong>n’t jammed, and it <strong>is</strong> not low paper or <strong>in</strong>k.<br />

Solution 3: <strong>Pr<strong>in</strong>ter</strong> <strong>is</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Offl<strong>in</strong>e state<br />

To make <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>ter onl<strong>in</strong>e, follow <strong>the</strong> steps given below:<br />

1. Click W<strong>in</strong>dows + X, go <strong>to</strong> Control Panel and click on Devices and pr<strong>in</strong>ters <strong>the</strong>re.<br />

2. Click <strong>Pr<strong>in</strong>ter</strong>.<br />

3. The <strong>Pr<strong>in</strong>ter</strong> will show offl<strong>in</strong>e status if it <strong>is</strong> offl<strong>in</strong>e and if it <strong>is</strong> onl<strong>in</strong>e, it shows “Ready”.<br />

4. Set <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>ter onl<strong>in</strong>e if it <strong>is</strong> offl<strong>in</strong>e.<br />

5. Right-click on <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>ter and choose “Use <strong>Pr<strong>in</strong>ter</strong> Onl<strong>in</strong>e”.<br />

6. When <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>ter <strong>is</strong> set <strong>to</strong> onl<strong>in</strong>e, <strong>the</strong> d<strong>is</strong>play would change <strong>to</strong> ready.<br />
