Texas Tech University is committed<br />
to comprehensive and open-ended<br />
<strong>in</strong>ternationalization. This is an ongo<strong>in</strong>g<br />
commitment, endorsed by faculty, students,<br />
and staff, and championed by the leadership.<br />
TTU’s <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Affairs</strong> (OIA)<br />
is entrusted with advanc<strong>in</strong>g the global<br />
reputation <strong>of</strong> the University and coord<strong>in</strong>at<strong>in</strong>g<br />
campus-wide <strong>in</strong>ternationalization activities.<br />
Through many <strong>in</strong>itiatives, the OIA provides<br />
support services for students, staff, faculty,<br />
and the Lubbock community. From K-12<br />
cultural programm<strong>in</strong>g and community<br />
outreach to <strong>in</strong>ternational alumni relations,<br />
seed grants, partnerships, and immigration<br />
counsel<strong>in</strong>g, efforts to diversify and<br />
comprehensively <strong>in</strong>ternationalize the campus<br />
have ga<strong>in</strong>ed momentum. Over the past 5<br />
years, evidence <strong>of</strong> this progress has been<br />
demonstrated through an <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>in</strong> the<br />
number <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternational undergraduate<br />
students and <strong>in</strong>ternational graduate students<br />
(80% and 18% respectively). In addition,<br />
the OIA assisted TTU faculty and staff <strong>in</strong><br />
compet<strong>in</strong>g for over $50 million <strong>in</strong> extramural<br />
funds and now works with <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />
alumni who are eager to advance our<br />
<strong>in</strong>stitutional goals. In 2016-<strong>2017</strong>, faculty-led<br />
study abroad programs <strong>in</strong>creased 48% with<br />
approximately 1,000 students and 100 faculty<br />
members participat<strong>in</strong>g. Expand<strong>in</strong>g its global<br />
footpr<strong>in</strong>t, TTU has an <strong>in</strong>ternational center <strong>in</strong><br />
Sevilla, Spa<strong>in</strong> and a new campus <strong>in</strong> San José<br />
Costa Rica. In its 17th year, our Study Abroad<br />
Center <strong>in</strong> Sevilla, Spa<strong>in</strong> has now served over<br />
3,500 students and TTU is on schedule to open<br />
its first degree-grant<strong>in</strong>g campus <strong>in</strong> San José,<br />
Costa Rica <strong>in</strong> the fall <strong>of</strong> 2018.<br />
Outreach to the community is a strategic<br />
priority for the university and the OIA. S<strong>in</strong>ce<br />
2012, the number <strong>of</strong> events and community<br />
members served through these outreach<br />
services have more than doubled. In 2016,<br />
our K-12 Global Education Outreach unit was<br />
awarded the prestigious NAFSA Paul Simon<br />
Spotlight award for excellence <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />
education.<br />
We rema<strong>in</strong> committed to “Bear Our Banners Far<br />
and Wide” by support<strong>in</strong>g the TTU community<br />
to become more globally engaged and<br />
prepar<strong>in</strong>g our students to be ethical leaders <strong>in</strong> a<br />
diverse and globally competitive workforce.<br />
