HOW TO CLEAN THE<br />
CAMERA SENSOR

WHAT YOU NEED<br />
• Lens blower – Don’t<br />
use your breath and<br />
leave spit on <strong>the</strong><br />
sensor…<br />
• <strong>Sensor</strong> swab – You can<br />
get <strong>the</strong>se disposable on<br />
e use swabs on eBay.
1) CHECK FOR DIRTY SENSORS<br />
• Attach any clean lens and<br />
use a very small aperture.<br />
• Take a pho<strong>to</strong> of a piece of<br />
white paper.<br />
• The dust spots will appear<br />
clearly in <strong>the</strong> pho<strong>to</strong>.<br />
• Don’t need <strong>to</strong> clean if <strong>the</strong><br />
sensor is not dirty.
2) AUTOMATIC CLEANING<br />
• Nikon Users: Setup menu > <strong>Clean</strong> image sensor<br />
> <strong>Clean</strong> Now<br />
• Canon Users: Menu > Tools > <strong>Sensor</strong> <strong>Clean</strong>ing ><br />
<strong>Clean</strong> Now<br />
• Sony Users: Menu > <strong>Clean</strong>ing Mode > Enter
3) MANUAL CLEANING<br />
• Do this if <strong>the</strong> sensor is still dirty<br />
after au<strong>to</strong> cleaning.<br />
• Mirrorless camera users: You c<br />
an access and clean <strong>the</strong> senso<br />
r once you take off <strong>the</strong> lens.<br />
• Nikon DSLR users: Setup Men<br />
u > Lock mirror for cleaning<br />
• Canon DSLR user: Menu > Too<br />
ls > <strong>Sensor</strong> <strong>Clean</strong>ing > <strong>Clean</strong><br />
Manually
4) WET CLEANING<br />
• To remove very stubborn<br />
pieces of dirt.<br />
• Do this only after au<strong>to</strong> cle<br />
aning fails.<br />
• Same as manual cleaning<br />
– lock <strong>the</strong> mirror up and u<br />
se <strong>the</strong> cleaning swab.
STILL DIRTY!?<br />
• Could be a piece of dirt permanently stuck.<br />
• Could be o<strong>the</strong>r sensor issues.<br />
• Do not attempt <strong>to</strong> clean anymore, send <strong>to</strong> service<br />
center for analysis.
