days, and have a hand full of nylon
fishing line at the end of my
walk, including line with hooks

I admire Mr Fidler’s enthusiasm
to get Redcliffs School back
to Redcliffs. However, the article
in the April 11 Bay Harbour
News does not do anything to
alleviate my concerns about the

to relocate to Redcliffs Park.
proposed use of Redcliffs Park as
a site for a school.
Redcliffs Park is fully utilised
as an important public amenity.
It is not vacant land that is available
for any other use.
Furthermore, I take issue with
some of the statements made.
Firstly, the Labour Government
can return the school back to the
old site quite quickly.
That’s the position our
MP claimed to support so let’s
see if they can do it? There is no
valid reason why they can’t.
Secondly, I don’t believe the
MoE had any intention to rebuild
on the old site any time soon. If
they must do a new build then do
it on the old site adjacent to Main
Rd just like the new building that
is proposed for Redcliffs Park.
Thirdly, the comments about
the Coastal Pathway as use for
access to the school are just
disingenuous nonsense in my
opinion. Are parents really going
to stop driving their children to
school? I don’t think so.
Is there really going to be a lot
of children from Mt Pleasant? I
don’t think so (there is a school
at Mt Pleasant.)
Most children can get to the
old site without crossing Main
Rd at all. Finally, the old Main
Rd site does not offer the same
seaside (estuary) amenity as
Redcliffs Park does now.
Redcliffs Park is prime public
recreational space and can not be
adequately replaced with spare
vacant land at the old Main Rd
school site.
All told, I think the article is
shoddy work and should be retracted.
Go back to the old site or
Barnett Park and get it right.
