Christian Aid Week
13th -19th May 2018
We believe in life before death
Bridge of Weir residents have been loyal supporters of Christian Aid Week
over the years. This year the red envelope will drop through your door
during the week of 13th to 19th May – thanks to an army of 60 volunteer
collectors.
Started nearly 70 years ago as a response by Christian churches in the UK
to the desperate needs of refugees in Europe after the Second World War,
Christian Aid now operates in nearly 40 countries promoting sustainable
development, striving for social justice and pursuing a vision of a world
without poverty. Founded on and guided by the teachings of Christ, Christian
Aid is committed to supporting poor and marginalised people, whatever their
beliefs, sexuality, gender and ethnicity.
Please make a special effort to support Christian Aid Week again this year.
The recent negative publicity concerning serious Oxfam failings was used by
some sections of the media to cast a shadow on all overseas aid. But the
poor, the marginalised and the displaced people of the world need our help
more than ever.
If you are a tax payer, don’t forget to fill out the gift aid form – which allows
Christian Aid to receive an extra 25p for every £1 donated. Perhaps not
much for one envelope, but multiplied across the whole village it could
mean up to £1,000 extra for Christian Aid!
If you are out when the collector calls back later in the week to pick up
the envelope, feel free to drop it into either St Machar’s Ranfurly church
or Freeland church. For more information please go to www.christianaid.
