Irene Banas, of Glenview,
is pleased to announce
the marriage of her
daughter, Alexandra
Banas Johnson, Esq, to
Dr. Anders Erik Svensson,
son of Thomas and Gerd
Svensson, of Bastad,
Sweden.
The couple met in
Copenhagen, Denmark,
where they both lived
and worked, and were
engaged in Paris. They
relocated to the North
Shore this month.
The bride is a graduate of
Northwestern University
and Boston College Law

will be married at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in early

School and recently accepted a position as a legal director with Charles Schwab.
The groom is a graduate of the Stockholm School of Economics and Lund University
Medical School and is a medical advisor within the pharmaceutical industry.
An early June wedding is planned at Our Lady of Perpetual Help church with a
celebratory reception to follow at North Shore Country Club.

Northbrook resident pleads
guilty to orchestrating $24
million tax fraud scheme
Barry Poticha, 73, of
Northbrook, pleaded guilty
April 16 to one count of
conspiracy to defraud the
United States, according
to a statement from the
U.S. Attorney’s Office for
the Northern District of Illinois.
Poticha, a bookkeeper
for two Chicago-area staffing
companies, admitted
in federal court that he
conspired to defraud the
IRS for at least a decade
by falsifying corporate tax
returns and W-2 forms to
reduce the taxes assessed
against the companies and
their owners.
According to the statement,
Poticha’s admitted
the scheme began no later
than 2000 and continued
through Dec. 19, 2011.
Poticha conspired with an
independent contractor to
falsify information supplied
to the IRS in quarterly
employment tax returns
filed by the companies, in
addition to false W-2 forms
the companies provided to
their employees and the
IRS, per the statement.
In total, Poticha’s conduct
resulted in an federal
tax loss of approximately
$24,450,609.

Century-old elm to be
removed near Glencoe
Metra station
A 100-year-old tree will
be removed within the next
month in Glencoe after it
has been in a steady decline
throughout recent years.
The “majestic” American
elm tree is located near the
Metra train station at 724
Green Bay Road in Glencoe.
It was directed to come
down by Glencoe’s forestry
division after it was monitored
and showed signs of
a potential hazard to commuters,
said Megan Hoffman,
assistant to the village
manager.
“In a few weeks, it will
come down, but there is no
official date set yet,” Hoffman
said.
The tree removal will
involve several pieces of
equipment on site with an
aerial truck parked in the
lawn area near the tree,
and it will most likely take
about two days, Hoffman
told The Anchor. Metra
will be notified, and there
will be pedestrian traffic
control provided on the
platform near the tree.
