relocated to the North<br />

The groom is a graduate of the Stockholm School of Economics and Lund University<br />

Northbrook resident pleads<br />
guilty to orchestrating $24<br />
million tax fraud scheme<br />
Barry Poticha, 73, of<br />
Northbrook, pleaded guilty<br />
April 16 to one count of<br />
conspiracy to defraud the<br />
United States, according<br />
to a statement from the<br />
U.S. Attorney’s Office for<br />
the Northern District of Illinois.<br />
Poticha, a bookkeeper<br />
for two Chicago-area staffing<br />
companies, admitted<br />
in federal court that he<br />
conspired to defraud the<br />
IRS for at least a decade<br />
by falsifying corporate tax<br />
returns and W-2 forms to<br />
reduce the taxes assessed<br />
against the companies and<br />
their owners.<br />
According to the statement,<br />
Poticha’s admitted<br />
the scheme began no later<br />
than 2000 and continued<br />
through Dec. 19, 2011.<br />
Poticha conspired with an<br />
independent contractor to<br />
falsify information supplied<br />
to the IRS in quarterly<br />
employment tax returns<br />
filed by the companies, in<br />
addition to false W-2 forms<br />
the companies provided to<br />
their employees and the<br />
IRS, per the statement.<br />
In total, Poticha’s conduct<br />
resulted in an federal<br />
tax loss of approximately<br />
$24,450,609.<br />

Century-old elm to be<br />
removed near Glencoe<br />
Metra station<br />
A 100-year-old tree will<br />
be removed within the next<br />
month in Glencoe after it<br />
has been in a steady decline<br />
throughout recent years.<br />
The “majestic” American<br />
elm tree is located near the<br />
Metra train station at 724<br />
Green Bay Road in Glencoe.<br />
It was directed to come<br />
down by Glencoe’s forestry<br />
division after it was monitored<br />
and showed signs of<br />
a potential hazard to commuters,<br />
said Megan Hoffman,<br />
assistant to the village<br />
manager.<br />
“In a few weeks, it will<br />
come down, but there is no<br />
official date set yet,” Hoffman<br />
said.<br />
The tree removal will<br />
involve several pieces of<br />
equipment on site with an<br />
aerial truck parked in the<br />
lawn area near the tree,<br />
and it will most likely take<br />
about two days, Hoffman<br />
told The Anchor. Metra<br />
will be notified, and there<br />
will be pedestrian traffic<br />
control provided on the<br />
platform near the tree.<br />
