My father was killed in a drunk-driving accident when I was 3, and my mother never remarried. All of my childhood memories were of our only-child, single-parent family. There was only she and I, yet I never felt shortchanged. As a child, she raised me with morals, values and experiences that have guided me effortlessly on my journey through life. As an adult, she has become both more than a mother and more than a friend simultaneously. Please do not think that I believe she can do no wrong. My mom is not always perfect and has never hidden that from me. When she made a mistake, she apologized and tried not to do it again. In doing so, she taught me about the difference between pride and arrogance, humility, responsibility for your actions, and the ability to be willing to grow as a person. These lessons are some of the many gifts she gave me. My mother is the best mother that any being could hope to have. Regardless of whether you concur or not, I know that no one could have a mother who has believed in their kid and supported them more than my mom has me. She won the best mom contest for me the minute I was born. There is no other. Nicole Lupo, adult Ocoee Why my mother’s the best? Well, let’s put her deeds to the test! She cooks, she cleans, she buys me a costume for Halloween. When I cry, she looks over me with her loving eye. Yes, I guess she can yell and be mean, but she’s no machine. Maybe she makes me eat food that I don’t want to, but it’s good to try something that’s new. She’s sometimes late, but I don’t mind the wait. She might be so tired that she could fall asleep, but for me, she would battle sheep. She gets me all the latest games, mixing up my sister’s and my names. From needs to wants, listening to her taunts, I know she means well. She doesn’t have to tell. Sometimes funny, really liking bunnies. Taking care of my health, always there whether it be for my skin or my hair. Always teaching me things that are new, everything I owe to you. My mom is the best, no matter how much you protest. I love her a lot, and this can only be her spot! Saki Anandani, 10 Kensington Park My mom is the best, because she lets me play tea party with her. She plays outside. She loves it when I dress up in a costume, especially my dragon costume. I love our bedtime snuggles. Saverio Cranford, 4 Lakes of Windermere I think my mom is the best, because she is patient and respectful. Also, whenever I have a school project, my mom helps me with my drafts (paragraphs) and what to put inside and outside of it. Once, when I was sick, and I started feeling a bit better, she took me to Disneyland. When I have field trips, she always asks me if I want her to chaperone. Whenever Dad goes on work trips, she lets us sleep turns with her, and we watch a movie and go to Chick-fil-A. She keeps us happy, and sometimes we go on surprise trips to Argentina to visit family. Every weekend I get to have a play date with my friends. My mom always likes teaching me things for when I am nervous, and it helps. That is why I think my mom is the best. Emma Sanabria, 9 North Bay My mom is terrific. First, she cooks spaghetti for me. Second, she helps me with my homework. Third, she jumps rope with me. Last, she collects seashells with me. Now you know all the reasons my mom is special. Lovely Aquart-Durieux, 7 Windhover Out of the 24 hours that the Earth spins on its axis each day, every

single moment, my mom spends thinking of my sister and me. She has made countless sacrifices for us, from leaving her whole life to come to America seeking a better life for her children, to traveling back and forth between three countries, working to provide for our family. Though I may not spend every minute with my mom, we truly have the strongest connection a mother and daughter can have, as she constantly knows how I feel before the words expressing my state of mind leave my mouth. “Role model” does not begin to describe what my mom means to me. She is my most prominent inspiration and supporter in everything I do. When I am not my most confident, my mom is there to pick me up and push me to do my absolute best. She is the most hardworking, caring and devoted mother in the world. My mom has the biggest heart, and I am so grateful to be under her care, having been blessed with her undying love for me. She never fails to show how much I mean to her and always reminds me by saying, “No matter what, I will always love you.” Lisette Alvaro, 14 Belmere There is no doubt in my mind that my mom is the best in Southwest. She is there when I need her, offering good advice and support. When a problem comes about, I know I can turn to my mom for help. One of the things I love most about my mom is the time we get to spend together driving to and from events. I do not know how she takes care of my two siblings and me, but she does an awesome job juggling it all. My mom also does an amazing job of providing me with all the necessary tools for school and play. Therefore, my mom is the best in Southwest. Eden Cowan, 9 Keene’s Pointe My mother is the best person in the universe. She studies with me, and she surprises me with so x May 3 — 16, 2018 x 35 much stuff like toys, decorating and other things. My mom’s favorite color is red. She loves to surprise me, and if a baby sitter comes, I will never forget about my mom. She takes me places and to many stores. In conclusion, I love my mom. Adam Arafat, 8 Gotha My mom is the best mom ever due to her generosity, care, love and support. I appreciate everything that my mom has sacrificed for me. She goes to work every day, and she brought me to Holy Family Catholic School to have an amazing religious education. My mom will do anything and everything to make me happy. She always tells me there aren’t any words to express the love that she has for me. Each day, I learn to appreciate more and more all my mom has done for me. My mom is supportive and will always be by my side. Even when I’m down, she never fails to cheer me up. Stephanie Younes, 11 Southwest Orlando Heroes are normally portrayed as superhumans with unimaginable abilities. However, this is not always the case. A mother may not be the first example that comes to mind when you hear the word “hero,” but if you truly dig deep into your heart and soul, you will discover that I am right. The protection, love and kindness of a nurturing mother triumphs over all the evils in the world. My mother does not fall short of this definition. She has been guiding and caring for me from the second I entered this world. She is my role model, the person I look up to the most. My mom is my inspiration. She started and still owns a successful business. She has won tremendous awards and gained recognition from her success. Even with her busy schedule and long hours, my mom finds time to be my personal chauffeur, therapist and best friend. She drives me to my plethora of extracurriculars, and she is there for me no matter what. CONTINUED ON PAGE 36
