Movie House not
welcomed in Suhyen
— Suhyenhemaa
BY ANNETTE S. YEBOAH
SUHYENHEMAA AND
Mponuahemaa of the New
Juaben Traditional Area, Nana
Amoanimaa Kukudurofuo, has
said the traditional area will not
welcome projects undertaken by investors
that will seek to destroy the moral fibre of
her society.
She mentioned projects such as the
building of a Movie House which has a
high propensity of luring the youth into
sexual promiscuity and its attendant consequences
such as teenage pregnancy and unsafe
abortion, as unacceptable to those in
the community.
The Suhyenhemaa, however, said
Suhyen is open to good investments. She
encouraged investors to set up businesses
to help boost the economic situation of the
people and also create jobs for the youth.
According to her, it is her aim to ensure
that the youth in the area grow to be more
responsible and not engage in drug abuse
and other social vices.
She advised parents to train their children
in a God-fearing manner so that when
they grow up they would not depart from
it.
She said “it is very worrying that young
girls drop out of school due to pregnancy. I
will set aside a day when resource persons
will come to the area to speak to the youth
and parents about family life and the danger
and consequences of engaging in early
sex.
“Educating them about sex helps a lot
as the teachers alone cannot do that. It is a
shared responsibility. Parents should not be
shy talking to their young girls and boys
•Nana Amoanimaa Kukudurofuo
about sex. That taboo of not talking about
sex needs to be broken.”
She warned parents, especially mothers,
not to push their teenage girls to bring
home money or borrow money from the
girls because it pushes them to engage in
sex.
“I have set up a foundation called
Kukudurofuo Youth Foundation where the
youth are engaged in soap, ice cream, and
garment making to be financially independent,”
she said.
The queen noted that acrimonies in the
area had affected the development and
progress of the people. She, therefore, encouraged
the people to be united by putting
all litigations behind them for the sake of
peace and prosperity of the town.
“We have been in isolation for a long
time. It is time to bond with our neighbours.
I know change is a gradual process;
with time the fortune of the people will
change when they embrace it,” she added.
About her
Nana Amoanimaa Kukudurofuo, born
as Doreen Adjoa Amoanimaa Boamah at
Asokore on November 28, 1977, began her
education at Achimota School in Accra.
She continued at Abuakwa State College
for her form five and sixth form and
passed with distinction.
According to her, after her secondary
school she decided to seek greener pastures
abroad but her father, now of blessed
memory, talked her out of it, so she proceeded
to Ho Polytechnic, now Ho Technical
University, to study marketing.
“My reason for choosing Ho Polytechnic
was to change my environment and also
learn the diverse culture, which paid off for
me,” she said.
Nana Amoanimaa Kukudurofuo, who
did her national service with Ghana Telecom,
now Vodafone, said growing up she
never anticipated that one day she would
become a queen to her people.
“All changed six years ago when my
uncle, who is now the king, told me that the
queen position is vacant so if I am interested
I should let him know but I was
pulling back because I thought I don’t have
that zeal since there are other nieces
around.
“The nieces pulled back and with
prayers and consultations with my pastors
the way was paved for me to become the
queen,” she said.
Nana Amoanimaa Kukudurofuo advised
queens to team up with their respective
chiefs so that, together with their
people, they give collective push to the de-
Make safe abortion
services accessible
• Marie Stopes Director
pleads with govt
BY BENJAMIN TANDOH
THE GLOBAL Director of
Marie Stopes International,
Mr Simon Cooke, has called
on the government to make
services for safe abortion
available and accessible to
the youth in order to reduce
maternal deaths.
According to him, pregnant
women engage in unsafe
abortion because they
do not get the right services,
and lauded Ghana for its
initiatives in curbing unsafe
abortion.
Speaking to the DAILY
HERITAGE during his
visit to Ghana, Mr Cooke
said the issue of abortion
could not be overlooked,
hence the need to give quality
service to ensure that
lives are not lost.
“If they don’t know
where to get them, they will
find other ways of getting
abortion, which might be
unsafe and they might hurt
themselves.
“If abortion is restricted
or not available women will
still seek it and will still take
matters into their own
hands, so the best thing is to
make it properly regulated
and accessible,” he stated.
In view of this, Mr
Cooke said Marie Stopes International
had designed
programmes to educate
young women, especially
adolescents, on sexual reproductive
health.
“We are trying to provide
services at our centres and
provide outreach programmes
to poor and rural
communities and social
franchise which will be a
booster,” he said.
He added, “we will like
to continue to expand that
network to make sure that
the services are available
and accessible everywhere
they need those services,
and make sure young people
and adolescents know what
is available to them.”
One of the programmes,
he told the paper, was the
‘Time to Talk’ campaign,
which seeks to encourage
young girls to ask some
pressing questions on pregnancy
and family planning.
He stated that they had
Muslims in
NPP angry
• Over date for Nat’l Delegates Conference
which coincides with Eid-ul-Fitr festival
BY MUNTALLA INUSAH
muntalla.inusah@dailyheritage.com.gh
SOME MUSLIMS in the governing
New Patriotic Party
(NPP) are disgusted by the decision
of the party to set a date
for its National Delegates
Conference to coincide with the upcoming
religious festival of Muslims, Eid-ul-
Fitr.
The Acting General Secretary of the
NPP, at a press conference in Accra,
stated that June 15-17 had been fixed for
the national conference, the same period
Sallah would be celebrated.
Speaking to the DAILY HER-
ITAGE, a concerned Muslim and the
Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator,
who is also vying for Nasara Coordinator,
Ali Suraj, sought to calm the nerves
•John Boadu, Acting
General Secretary, NPP
of the angry supporters, but said he also
shared the concern of his Muslim brethren.
“Eid-ul-Fitr in our part of the world is
revered by Muslims and the two preceding
days after the Sallah are days for merrymaking
in all Islamic homes. Therefore if the date of
the elections remains unchanged, it will deprive
the Muslims in the party of enjoying the
festival,” he stated.
He said though the date was fixed by the
National Executive Council long before the
date for the Sallah celebration was known, it
would be appropriate for the party to reconsider
the date.
According to him, “the date, if not
changed, will affect the NPP.”
Appeal for change of date
He said “the General Secretary of our
great party addressed the press and mentioned
among other things the modalities and the
date for the forthcoming national congress.
“I find that the stipulated date will conflict
with the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, which is very
important to Muslims throughout the world
and for that matter Muslims in the party, especially
my Nasara coordinators and their
deputies.
“It is also worthy of note that Eid-ul Fitr
day is a public holiday. It is for these reasons
that in all humility, I am pleading with the
leadership of our great party to listen to the
voice of a humble Zongorian by reconsidering
the date. I am very optimistic that the leadership
would heed my request,” he said..
Welfare of Zongo community
Touting the commitment of the NPP to
the Muslim community, Mr Suraj said “the
NPP, since its inception, has championed and
continue to champion the welfare and development
of the Zongo community and for that
matter Islam and Muslims.
“The many policies of the erstwhile Kufuor-led
administration and Nana Akufo-
Addo's government are all geared towards the
development of Zongos. Mention can be
made of the free maternal care, health insurance,
Zongo Development Fund, Zongo Ministry
and many others.”
He added that “it is also on record that the
NPP is the only political party which has given
two Muslims the rare opportunity of serving
as Vice President,” and that, “though the National
Democratic Congress accrued more
than double of our total votes from the
Zongo communities, they have paid lip-service
to the demands and concerns of the Zongo
enclave.”
Reaction
The paper made attempts to get a reaction
from the acting general secretary yesterday, but
his telephone line was unreachable.
The line of the Acting Chairman of the
party, Mr Freddie Blay, went through but the
paper was told he was addressing some delegates
at the time and would be informed to return
the call, but as at the time of going to
press the call had not been returned.
Ms Anne Coleen, Country Director,
Marie Stopes International,
Ghana, expressed
concern about the inadequate information
on sexual reproductive
This, according to her, had
family planning and some sexrelated
issues.
She, therefore, urged the
Ghanaian youth, especially those
in their adolescent age, to contact
them for support concerning
their sexual health.
“We have a lot of volunteers
in the communities who are
to the people that have the questions,”
she told the paper.
Singer MzVee, who has been
with some young
to contact them.
Armenia crisis: Opposition leader Pashinyan faces PM vote
ARMENIA'S PARLIAMENT is
set to decide whether to back opposition
leader Nikol Pashinyan as
prime minister as his supporters
rally in the capital.
Mr Pashinyan, who has led
weeks of anti-government protests
that forced former Prime Minister
Serzh Sargsyan to resign, is the
only candidate.
He warned MPs of a "political
Armenia's ruling Republican
•Nikol Pashinyan has said he will rid Armenia of corruption
But the protest leader said
that there were moves aimed at
halting his bid and he urged
protesters to stay on the streets
in the centre of Yerevan to prevent
the Republican Party from
All 47 opposition members of
parliament have pledged to vote
for Mr Pashinyan, but he will need
votes from six Republican Party
deputies to win the majority he
Chad lawmakers
approve boost to
president's power
CHAD'S PARLIA-
MENT approved a
new constitution
on Monday expanding
President
Idriss Déby's powers
and potentially allowing him to
stay in office until 2033.
The vote, which was boycotted
by most opposition lawmakers,
eliminates the post of prime minister.
Critics say the move to a fully
presidential system is aimed at entrenching
Mr Déby's power.
Another change is to the length
of presidential mandates.
The current term is five years
long with no limits on re-election.
The new constitution imposes a sixyear
mandate, and re-instates a
maximum limit of two terms which
had been scrapped in a 2005 referendum.
The changes will not be applied
retroactively. This means President
Déby could serve two terms after
the next election in 2021, staying in
post until 2033.
The constitution now awaits
President Déby signature for it to
enter into force.
Tensions are growing in Chad
•Idriss Déby, 65, has led the oil-rich country since 1990
after opposition groups boycotted a
forum last month discussing the
proposed changes.
AFP also reports that two
human rights activists who wanted
to stage a sit-in in front of parliament
yesterday ahead of the vote
were arrested and later released.
Tchindebbe Patalle, a spokesman
for the National Union for Development
The US State Department
said in a statement that the
Burundi's democratic institutions.
It called on the government
"to respect Burundi's
international legal obligations
regarding the rights to freedom
On Monday a court sentenced
DAILY HERITAGE WEDNESDAY, MAY 2, 2018
Editorial
Sanitation policies and govts
CONTINUITY IN the politics of
Ghana continues to be a major setback
to the development of the
country as governments come and
go.
Due to different ideologies, the
two main political parties - the New
Patriotic Party and National Democratic
Congress - hardly agree on
anything in the interest of the country.
It would be recalled that under
the erstwhile National Democratic
Congress (NDC) administration, the
then President John Dramani Mahama
instituted a National Sanitation
Day policy whereby a day was
set aside in a month to clean various
parts of the country.
The exercise became so popular
that it became compulsory in certain
jurisdictions and residents dared not
abstain from the exercise. However,
since the new government took
over, the policy has died a natural
death and a new one born.
President Nana Addo Dankwa
Akufo-Addo not long ago launched
a National Sanitation Campaign and
pledged to ensure that it did not become
a nine-day wonder.
A National Sanitation Brigade has
also been formed to enforce the
sanitation regulations as happened
under the infamous ‘Town Council
Inspectors’ regime, where many residents
were found wanting for not
keeping their environment clean.
The DAILY HERITAGE is
disappointed that the current regime
failed to build on the National Sanitation
Day exercise by enhancing it.
Nonetheless, we welcome the
new policy because on the face of it,
it sounds extremely promising and
so we urge the implementing agencies
not to disappoint the President.
We also call on Ghanaians to
change our attitude towards refuse
disposal. This policy can only be
successful if the nation does it together.
It is our hope that this new
policy will stand the test of time and
not be subjected to needless political
attack under a new administration.
Single Spine
to be reviewed
PRESIDENT Nana Addo
Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated
that as his administration seeks
to establish a world-class labour
force comparable to any in the
world, concerns of workers in the public
sector over their remuneration must be addressed.
It is for this reason that an Inter-Ministerial
Committee has been established by
the Ministries of Employment and Labour
Relations and Finance to undertake the review
of the Single Spine Pay Policy (SSPP),
and to make recommendations for implementation
by the government.
According to President Akufo-Addo,
“having operated with the policy since its
inception in 2010, it is time to institute this
review. The team is expected to do a thorough
review of both public and private
sector pay policies, not only in Ghana, but
also across the globe, to make informed
recommendations for implementation.”
The President continued, “productivity
should be taken into consideration in the
determination of remuneration for work
done by employees in both the public and
the private sectors. Whilst we seek to review
the remuneration, I continue to count
on you, Secretary General, to lead the campaign
for a change in attitude to work and
increase in productivity.”
President Akufo-Addo made this
• Says Prez Akufo-Addo
• It was all joy at the 2018 May Day celebration
Tuesday, May 1, 2018, on the occasion of
in Kumasi.
ECG concession
Whilst applauding Organised Labour
heartily for the calm industrial climate
Ghana has enjoyed over the last 16
months, President Akufo-Addo recounted
one of the issues that took centre stage last
year, which is the ECG Concession, and
the fear of layoff of Ghanaian workers.
“You will recall that in my address, I
pledged that the terms of the agreement
would be in Ghana’s interest. I am happy
to report today the existence of an MOU
between organized labour, the Ministry of
Energy, and the Ministry of Employment
and Labour Relations, which will ensure
that no worker of ECG would be negatively
affected or laid off as a result of the
coming into effect of the ECG concession,”
he said.
Again, the President stressed that “majority
of shares of the ECG concessionaire,
that is 51%, after the signing of this
agreement, are in the hands of Ghanaians.”
Pensions
On the matter of pensions, President
Akufo-Addo stated that the Government,
through the Ministries of Finance and Employment
and Labour Relations, had, with
the co-operation of the TUC, ensured the
smooth transfer of GH¢ 3.1 billion of Tier
2 pension funds into the custodial accounts
of the pension schemes of labour unions,
funds that had been outstanding for six
years, and about which TUC had been
loudly complaining.
“Our concern has been to ensure that
the Pension Funds are secured ahead of
their retirement. Persons who have also
been nominated to chair these Schemes are
well equipped, and possess the necessary
experience in the management of the affairs
of the Schemes,” he said.
Workers, the President indicated, could
be assured that their contributions, and accompanying
investment returns, are safe,
and would be promptly disbursed as and
when they retire from active service.

Mahama is sabotaging
fight against illegal mining
BY DR KINGSLEY NYARKO,
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, DI
IT IS very sad, worrying and
troubling when as a result
of political power, politicians
play to the gallery and
act against the interest of
the country. The above is
exactly what former President
Mahama and his National Democratic
Congress (NDC) are noted
for.
At their ‘unity’ walk in Kumasi
on Saturday, apart from his party
members parading placards that
clearly show his unwillingness to
help the fight against illegal mining,
he went as far as to discredit
the efforts of both the government
and the joint military and
police taskforce mandated to ensure
that the activities of illegal
miners are brought to a halt.
According to ex-President
Mahama, “…it is true that if we
don’t do something about it, it
will destroy the environment. But
we need to apply wisdom. Because
we’ve chased young people
involved in illegal small-scale
mining with soldiers in the
past in this country but it
didn’t work.” He continued
“But if we put a blanket ban
and send soldiers after the
young people that is not the
way to go. As you stop illegal
small-scale mining, at the
same time you must put in
place a livelihood package so
that as you are displacing
people from illegal mining,
they have something to do…
.But when there is nothing
to do but you are just chasing
them, shooting them, it
is not the way to go.”
From the above quotes, it
is clear that the former President
has admitted, though
sadly that he did not apply
wisdom when in May 2013
he inaugurated a high-powered
inter-ministerial committee,
dubbed
Anti-Galamsey Taskforce to find
lasting solution to illicit mining
once and for all. Good to know
that you did not apply wisdom in
your case, sir; but we want you to
understand that President Nana
•Former President John Dramani Mahama
•Dr Kingsley Nyarko
Akufo-Addo’s intervention was
influenced and backed by wisdom.
His inter- ministerial team
headed by Prof. Frimpong
Boateng was mandated not only
to end the illegal mining menace,
but it has a comprehensive intervention
that also seeks to
provide an alternative livelihood
for the displaced miners,
which they are feverishly working
to achieve.
What is even more troubling
about the sad and disturbing
comment by ex-President Mahama
is that when on March 1,
2014 he announced the second
phase of the operation of the
taskforce, he said they were
going to introduce a livelihood
package which was never done.
For over two years no such
package was rolled out by his
administration; but today he is
lecturing us on the need to provide
such an intervention.
We want to state emphatically
that his advice is late;
President Akufo-Addo is wise
and knows that already and is
doing that. When it comes to
fighting illegal mining, former
President Mahama was a miserable
failure; in fact, he promoted
it.
His legacy was a deplorable
and degraded environment, destruction
of our water bodies
and farmlands, school children
dropping out of school to engage
in illegal mining, needless
and preventable deaths and loss
of mineral revenue to the State,
among others.
We want to plead with all and
sundry, especially small scale
miners with genuine license to
work to bear with the President
and government as they work to
make the environment conducive
and friendly for all. When we
lose the fight against illegal mining,
we will lose our good intention
of providing a better
country for the current and future
generations.
That is why we need to make
it clear to Ghanaians to be wary
and worried about some politicians,
mostly from the NDC
who, as a result of desperation to
capture political power, do not
care a hoot about our lands being
degraded as long as it will increase
their political fortunes.
We need also to understand
that when this fight is lost, our
future is lost, our hope is gone,
and we shall become miserable
and wretched.
The negative consequences of
illegal mining, apart from lost
revenue to the State, include adverse
health effects, school
dropout, poor school performance,
pollution of our water bodies,
less crop yields, decrease
revenue from agricultural exports,
lack of portable drinking
water, needless deaths, among
others.
In concluding, we would want
to plead with former President
Mahama to think more about
Ghana than himself and his ambition
to lead this country again.
We expect him to be a bit patriotic
and support the advancement,
progress and development
of the country. Ghana’s interest
should be his major preoccupation
and not the desperate and
uncontrolled appetite to be president
again. That desire is not patriotism,
but parochial which has
the potential of wasting the fortunes
of this great nation of
ours. The fight against illicit mining
should be a collective responsibility.
Signed
Dr Kingsley Nyarko
(Executive Director, Danquah
Institute)

Facts about Cholera
• Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal
disease that can kill within hours if
left untreated.
• There are 100 000–120 000
deaths due to cholera every year of
which only a small proportion are
reported to World Health Organisation.
• Up to 80% of cases can be
successfully treated with oral rehydration
solution (ORS).
• Typical at-risk areas of
cholera include peri-urban slums
with limited access to safe drinking
water and lack of proper sanitation.
• About 75% of people infected
with Vibrio cholerae 1 or
139 do not develop any symptoms.
• Surveillance is paramount to
identify vulnerable populations living
in hotspots.
• Safe and effective oral cholera
vaccines are now part of the
cholera control package.
• Cholera is a preventable disease
provided that safe water and
proper sanitation are made available.
Typhoid fever: the killer disease
BY STEPHEN BENTI
TYPHOID FEVER
has been one of the
infections that the
Ministry of Health,
in collaboration
with the government,
is fighting hard to eradicate
permanently or, perhaps, reduce
its impact on us as a country.
The Ministry of Health and
the government have been working
assiduously to educate the
general public on this deadly infection
that is sending many children
and even grownups into their
graves earlier, yet it is still a challenge
we, as a country, are struggling
with.
A research conducted by the
Disease Control in 2015 showed
that about 9.5% of the Ghanaian
population are affected by Typhoid
Fever.
In 2016, another research conducted
by this same group indicated
that the outbreak of
Typhoid Fever in the overcrowded
cities such as Accra, Kumasi,
Takoradi and the urban areas is as
a result of filth and in rural areas
that do not have pipe-borne water
and boreholes but rely on the
streams and river water, it has increased
from 9.5% to 13.6%. Out
of this about 0.9% do not make it
to enjoy life.
Typhoid Fever
Typhoid Fever, also known as
Enteric Fever, is a potentially fatal
multisystem illness caused by salmonella
serotype Salmonella
typhi. This highly adapted humanspecific
pathogen has evolved remarkable
mechanisms for
persistence in its host that help to
ensure its survival and transmission.
Typhoid fever is a major cause
of illness and death in overcrowded
and unsanitary urban
conditions of Ghana and even
Africa as a whole. To be more
specific, Typhoid Fever is caused
by contaminated food and water.
A recent research conducted
•Keeping the environment clean prevents typhoid fever
across the country by the Kintampo
Health College (Disease
Control Students) late in 2017 indicated
that about 5million people
were infected with Typhoid Fever
out of which about 60, 000 deaths
were recorded.
This happened as a result of so
many reasons such as disposal of
refuse into rivers and gutters, defaecation
around river banks and
running waters, failure to wash
hands with soap, leaving food uncovered,
eating of leftover foods
which were not properly conserved.
The above-mentioned reasons
are mostly seen in the developing
countries of which our mother
Ghana cannot be left out. In my
view, these are the main factors
contributing to the increase of infections
and deaths recorded
every year.
The graph below shows the increase
in the percentage of the infection
in the country and death
rate from 2014 to 2017 according
to the research by Kintampo
Health College.
From the above graph we
clearly see that the percentage of
the infection with its death rate
has been increasing from the year
2014 to 2017 from 3.1% infections
with 0.3% deaths, to 4.2%
with 0.9% deaths, 6.9% with 1.2%
deaths and 11.4% with 1.7%
deaths over the respective years.
With these figures, one must not
be told typhoid fever infection is
on the rise. But sadly, the public
has not been sensitized to this information
well enough to caution
them first-hand on the earliest
signs and symptoms.
When one ge- I 0-have liver,
spleen bone marrow or even gall
bladder infections. At this stage,
the infected person begins to experience
the symptoms of typhoid
fever severely.
Manifestation of
typhoid fever
The protean manifestation of
typhoid fever makes the disease a
true diagnostic challenge. The
classic presentation includes fever,
malaise, defuse abdominal pain
and constipation. Untreated typhoid
fever is a gruelling illness
that may progress to delirium
(confusion and hallucination), obtundation,
intestinal haemorrhage,
bowel perforation and death
within one month of onset. Survivors
may be left with long-term
or permanent neuropsychiatric
complications.
To avoid the increasing rate of
this pandemic infection causing
the lives of many Ghanaians, the
government must provide clean
drinking water and proper sewage
systems for rural and urban areas.
Again, the Ministry of Health,
in collaboration with the Ghana
Health Service, should educate the
general public on the following:
Causes of typhoid fever
The negative effects associated
with defaecating around river
banks, gutters and homes, the
need for proper hand-washing before
and after eating and also anytime
one visits the toilet, how to
prepare food under hygienic conditions
and also proper preservation
methods. I believe if these
suggestions are implemented by
the government, the Ministry of
Health and the Ghana Health
Service and well received by the
public, typhoid fever will be a
thing of the past.
In 2016, another research conducted
by this same group indicated
that the outbreak of
Typhoid Fever in the overcrowded
cities such as Accra, Kumasi,
Takoradi and the urban areas is
as a result of filth and the rural
areas that do not have pipe borne
water and boreholes but rely on
the streams and river water has
increased from 9.5% to 13.6%.
Out of this about 0.9% do not
make it to enjoy life.

Expert urges safety
measures at workplaces
PHILIP ANTOH
philip.antoh@dailyheritage.com
A HEALTH and safety expert and director
of PB Protection Centre, Nana Philip
Asante, has said Ghanaian leaders ought to
think about the health, safety and welfare of
workers to boost morale and enhance
productivity in both the private and public
sector.
According to Nana Asante, many
workers have no idea about good sitting
posture at work and the use of office
equipment (ergonomics) or have traffic
wardens or marshals to assist employees on
safe pedestrian crossing around their
premises, leading to the death of many
workers in the country.
Speaking to the DAILY HERITAGE
as the world marked this year’s World
Occupational Health and Safety Awareness
Day, which fell on April 28, 2018, he said
global statistics from the International
Labour Organisation indicate that 270
million occupational accidents and 160
million diseases are recorded each year.
Nana Asante said around two million
people die every year, resulting in 4% loss
of world’s gross domestic product.
He added that the report further
indicated that around 355,000 work-related
fatal accidents were recorded each year out
of which half occurred in the agricultural
sector.
The expert said many employees in both
public and private workplaces, including
those in the kitchen and eating places,
lacked the required health and safety
training in their areas of service, adding
that many of these workers such as
journalists, caterers, paramedics, tax
collectors, national standards enforcers,
farmers and others, need appropriate
personal protective equipment.
Way forward
Nana Asante said Ghana needs health,
safety and welfare management systems in
workplaces to prevent employees from pain
and suffering. He said it was economically
prudent and reasonable in terms of profit
maximisation to protect all people at all
times to avoid unnecessary spending.
The effect
The negative effects of health and safety
avoidance, he added, led to injury, loss of
life and diseases the result of which is
negative impact on the country, dependents,
families, friends, colleagues and many
others.
The health and safety campaigner said
when institutions and organisations failed
to implement health and safety
management systems, they flout both
national and international frameworks that
govern these entities.
Nana Asante said according to the
Health and Safety Act, 1964, there should
be health and safety systems to serve as risk
control measures and incentives to
employees at all workplaces.
“It is the responsibility of the
government to ensure that the safety of
every Ghanaian is ensured much more than
paying tax to the nation because health is
worth. If we are injured, how can we work
to create worth to pay our taxes? It is
reasonably good for the citizens to rise up
to demand the enhancement of our health
and safety in our various workplaces,” he
stated.
“We the people of PB Protection Centre
think there is no other appropriate time
than now, because every accident is an
unplanned event which may cause huge
losses and irreparable damage, so we should
act now.”
•Nana Philip Asante, health and safety expert
Nation Builders Corps launched
PRESIDENT Nana Addo Dankwa
Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday, May 1, 2018,
launched the Nation Builders Corps
(NABCO), which will employ, in this
year alone, 100,000 young men and
women to assist in the public sector
service delivery needs of Ghana.
According to President Akufo-Addo,
“NABCO will be the vehicle to deliver
100,000 jobs in seven prioritised areas,
defined as the following modules:
Educate Ghana; Heal Ghana; Feed
Ghana; Revenue Ghana; Digitise Ghana;
Enterprise Ghana; and Civic Ghana.”
Explaining the rationale for the
establishment of the Corps, President
Akufo-Addo noted that the grim story
of youth unemployment had been a
tragic part of the lives of Ghanaians for
far too long , worsened, in recent times,
by the ban placed on public sector
employment by the International
Monetary Fund.
That is why, according to the
President, in the 2018 budget statement,
“I gave an indication that a new
employment scheme will be launched to
tackle the issue of the growing numbers
of graduates exiting our tertiary
institutions with no job placements in
sight.”
Wisa convicted
BY MUNTALLA INUSAH
muntalla.inusah@dailyheritage.com
TALENTED HIPLIFE
artiste, Eugene Ashe,
known in the music
industry as Wisa Greid,
has been sentenced to a
fine of GH¢ 8,400.00 for
gross indecency for exposing his
manhood in public when performing
on stage.
Wisa, of the ‘Ekikimi’ fame, was
arrested in December 2015 after videos
of him displaying his manhood while
performing at Citi FM’s ‘Decemba-2-
Rememba’ Christmas Eve concert at
the Accra International Conference
Centre (AICC), went viral.
He was charged with gross indecent
exposure and found guilty after full
trial.
Fake manhood
In a nearly-three-year trial, which
was characterised with series of bench
warrants, Wisa told the court that what
he displayed on stage was a fake
manhood, contrary to what was alleged.
“On that night, I fixed a fake
manhood which I was wearing under
my boxer shorts. So during the
performance, when I was almost done
and about to leave the stage, while
dancing with the dancer that I used, I
NABCO’s central focus, the
President said, would be to create
employment avenues and opportunities
for young people who hold diplomas or
degrees from accredited tertiary
institutions, adding that “NABCO will
enhance the dignity and self-esteem of
our graduates, and will also present them
with the added benefit of efficiency and
effectiveness in the delivery of some
essential public services.”
President Akufo-Addo said he was
confident that by the time NABCO
trainees exit the scheme, which is for a
3-year period, “the requisite work
readiness skills and experience, often
deemed a barrier to their employment as
fresh graduates, would have been
resolved.”
How to apply
With module qualification and
recruitment processes, and all the
essential criteria, along with detailed
information, all available on the website
of NABCO (www.nabco.gov.gh), the
President noted that the website is the
only medium for receiving applications
from graduates, as long as they are
Ghanaian citizens, and have duly
discharged their national service
•Wisa Greid, being whisked away
pulled out the fake penis that I was
wearing under my boxer shorts from
the front and that was it. I left the
stage,” he recounted.
Wisa, who issued a statement to
apologise for his action, told the court
he decided to apologise on radio and
television because of the perception the
incident had created in the public.
Wisa subsequently tendered in
obligations.
“There are no charges or costs, and
no paper application forms to fill.
Everything is being done online, and on
the website of NABCO. This will
optimise efficiency in the processing of
applications, as well as afford the
opportunity for checking with other
available national databases to prevent
fraud,” he added.
The President continued, “With the
application processes closing on 1st
June, 2018, it is expected that, by 1st
July, selected applicants would become
this country’s first NABCO trainees,
who will receive training and will be
deployed to commence their work by 1st
August, 2018.”
For the attainment of equity and
fairness, the President noted that every
constituency has a stated allocation out
of the 100,000 placements, which has
been worked out based on a weighting
formula, thus, ensuring all
constituencies, large or small, adequate
representation.
Remuneration
With the ultimate aim being to help
guarantee employability of these
graduates, placements would last for a
evidence the supposed fake penis
strapped to a belt at the court as what
he used on the night.
Defence argument
Jerry Avenorgbor, his lawyer, who
questioned the authenticity of the
video, which was shown in court, said it
could have been doctored by someone
to achieve a purpose.
•President Nana Akufo-Addo speaking at the launch
But, the court, presided over by Mrs
Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, found
Wisa guilty of the charge proffered
against him and convicted him
accordingly.
The court said although Wisa
claimed he used a fake penis on stage,
the video proved otherwise as there was
no sign of a belt on his waist when he
pulled out his manhood.
The trial judge held that though
Wisa tendered in the supposed fake
penis he used on the night, he forgot to
add pubic hair to it, contrary to what
was available in the video.
“I am convinced that the accused
person (Wisa) used his God-given penis
and not a fake penis as he wants the
court to believe,” Mrs Adjin-Doku
stated.
In her sentencing, the judge took
into consideration the fact that the
accused did not show any remorse for
his act since the beginning of the trial.
She said he is a public figure and a
lot of young people look up to him
and, therefore, chose a fine over a
custodial sentence – but risked going to
jail for 24 months if he failed to pay
the money.
Lack of funds
Moments after the sentencing, his
lawyer prayed the court to defer the
verdict since they had only GH¢
5,000.00 on them in court.
The court obliged them, and granted
a new bail of GH¢ 10,000.00 with one
surety to be justified, but he was unable
to get a surety and was subsequently
handcuffed and taken away by the
police.
He has since paid the fine and so
walks a free man.
period of three years, earning NABCO
trainees a stipend of 700 Ghana cedis
every month.
“This is a modest, but important
beginning towards the restoration of
their dignity. Beneficiaries will also
receive continuous skills training, and
retraining on the job, both to equip and
guide their future career paths,” the
President stated.
He noted further that the security
offered by this graduate employment
scheme implies that graduates have
sufficient time to make prudent choices
on their future entry into the labour
market, on potential interests of starting
businesses and entrepreneurship, or even
on definitive clarity on further learning
options, guided by experiences and the
benefit of exposure to the world of
work.
Non-graduates
With regards to persons who do not
have diplomas or degrees, the President
indicated that NABCO is freeing up the
Youth Employment Agency (YEA) of
the burden of dealing with everything to
do with employment amongst the youth,
especially graduates.
“NABCO is granting YEA extra
absorptive capacity to concentrate on
non-graduates. YEA will also recruit
80,000 non-graduates this year, whilst
NABCO commences recruitment of
100,000 graduates,” he explained.
President Akufo-Addo assured the
public that his Government’s
commitment to job creation would not
end here, but would be accelerated
through the implementation of our
flagship programmes of ‘One District
One Factory’, ‘One village One Dam’,
and the programme for ‘Planting for
Food and Jobs’.
“We are also creating an enabling
economic environment for the private
sector to thrive, which will drive in
investment, foreign and domestic, and,
thereby, help create jobs,” he added.
President Akufo-Addo urged
graduates who qualify to enter this
scheme to “own it and help something
meaningful and fulfilling happen for
yourself and for your country. Be proud
to say ‘I am a Nation Builder’, and this
country will be thankful to you too for
rising up to the challenge.”
African leaders must
seek peace, prosperity
— President Akufo-Addo
PRESIDENT NANA Addo
Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has
urged the next generation of
African leaders to seek peace
and prosperity for the long
suffering masses on the African
continent.
According to President
Akufo-Addo, “If we are going
to build prosperous countries,
we should have peace, and
those who would lead Africa
must seek and cherish peace.”
The President made this
known on Saturday, 28 April,
2018, when he delivered the
keynote address at the 27th
Africa Peace Leadership
Awards, organised by the
Centre for African Peace and
Conflict Resolution of the
California State University,
Sacramento.
With pervasive poverty
being Africa’s biggest problem,
and which is likely to pose
Africa’s biggest security threat,
President Akufo-Addo stated
that Africa needs to have peace
to deal with this debilitating
problem.
“As they say, “l’argentn’aime
pas le bruit” (money does not
like noise), and, indeed, we
would all agree that where
there is chaos, where there is
noise, where there is unrest,
you are not likely to find
money or the widespread
prosperity that will enable the
longsuffering masses of
Africans to live lives of
dignity,” he said.
African leaders, the
President noted, must “have
more self-confidence and
accept that we shall never reach
the level of development we
aspire to by relying on aid or
external assistance, no matter
how generous. It is a mindset
that I wish us to discard, a
mindset of dependency and
living on handouts; it is
unhealthy both for the giver
and for the recipient.”
He explained that the next
generation of African leaders
would have to understand that
they could not draw up their
national budgets, with the
expectation that a percentage
of revenue would be coming
from donor nations.
“They have to appreciate,
and work with the reality that
properly harnessed and
efficiently and honestly
managed, there are abundant
resources on the continent to
finance its own development,”
the President noted.

Fuel prices would be stable
only if NPA intervenes - IES
BY ROSEMOND BOATENG ADDAI
rosemond.adjetey@yahoo.com
THE INSTITUTE
for Energy Security
(IES) has projected
that fuel
prices would be
stable on the local
market only if the National Petroleum
Authority (NPA) decides
to apply the Price
Stabilisaion and Recovery (PSR)
Levy mechanism for the second
consecutive pricing-window.
A statement signed by Mr
Richmond Rockson, Principal
Analyst, IES, explained that the
NPA’s intervention with the PSR
Levy, and competition amongst
Oil Marketing Companies
(OMCs) came to the rescue of
petroleum consumers, forestalling
a price increment of up
to 2.5% as projected by IES.
The analyst shared that the
prices of both Gasoline and
Gasoil scaled up on the international
fuel market. Brent crude
experienced a significant surge in
price, and as the Ghanaian Cedi
recorded a marginal gain against
the U.S. Dollar, fuel imports
looked good over the last two
weeks; although with low strategic
reserves.
He said “OMCs that increased
prices within the period
had to revert to old prices to be
able to compete for market
share. As a result, Gasoline and
Gasoil continue to be traded at
GH¢ 4.57 and GH¢ 4.56 respectively
on national average
terms.”
World Oil Market
Prices
He also pointed out that
Brent crude price continued to
incline on the global market,
with prices within the last 14days
averaging $73.01 per barrel, as
wave of global economic growth
continue to drive up the demand
of oil, and U.S. production experiences
a slack over last year.
Mr Rockson added that Standard
and Poor’s Global Platts
benchmark showed an upward
price adjustment for both Gasoline
and Gas oil, with Gasoline
averaging $694.93 per metric
tonne (price change of 1.93%)
and Gas oil recording a significant
price increase of 4.55% as
it closed trading at $644.57 per
metric tonne over the last two
weeks.
Local Forex and Fuel
Stock
He also stated that over the
last 14 days, the Ghana Cedi
gained a marginal value against
the U.S. Dollar, with the local
currency trading at an average of
GH¢ 4.50, an appreciation of
1.09% compared to the previous
average of GH¢ 4.55.
He said “from April 16, 2018
to date, total petroleum imports
stand at 135,294 metric tonne;
100,994 metric tonnes of Gasoline,
9000 metric tonnes of Gas
oil, 13,500 metric tonnes of Jet
Fuel (ATK) and 11,800 metric
tonnes of Butane (LPG).”
For the second consecutive
pricing-window, the analyst
pointed out that Zen Petroleum,
Benab Oil, Pacific, Lucky Oil
and Frimps Oil continued to sell
the least-priced Gasoline and
Gas oil on the local fuel market
as revealed by IES Market-
Scan,” he explained.
Savannah Paints promotes
products at Kasoa
BY ROSEMOND BOATENG ADDAI
rosemond.adjetey@yahoo.com
SOME MANAGEMENT and staff of
Savannah Paints, a local paint productions
company, as part of the Corporate
Social Responsibility of the company,
have painted the office of Awutu Senya
East Municipal Assembly at Kasoa in the
Central Region.
Mr Alexander McCarthy, Sales Representative
at Savanna Paints, in an interview
with the DAILY HERITAGE,
said though the product had been in the
market for more than years, they decided
to embark on a brand awareness exercise
in order to interact with their customers
and sell the brand to prospective clients.
“We chose Kasoa today because we
believe it is a big market, it is our prayer
that the people here will patronize our
products. We will also do the same
across the 10 regions in the country,” Mr
McCarthy said.
According to him, the exercise also
forms part of efforts to reassure customers
of quality product and affordable
price which could last up to 10 years before
fading.
“The brand has not changed; what
we have done is to increase the quality of
our products. We want our customers to
know that quality is one thing we don’t
compromise on and so once you use Savannah
Paints you are assured of value
for money,” Mr McCarthy explained.
The Municipal Chief Executive for
Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly,
Mr Michael Yaw Essuman Mensah, said
he is impressed with the gesture of Savanna
Paints and urged other corporate
entities to follow their footsteps to help
in the development of the community in
which they work.
“It is something I want to encourage
because it will generate revenue for the
assembly. Kasoa is the fastest developing
community in West Africa so if you want
to sell building materials, then it is the
place to come to,” he noted.
The campaign began with a float
from Kaneshie in Accra and ended at
Kasoa in the Central region.
MTN Ghana holds ethics and fraud awareness workshop
THE AUDITOR General, Mr Daniel
Yao Domelevo, has indicated that on
issues of corruption and fraud, preventive
measures are better than corrective
measures.
He made this statement when he
addressed vendors and suppliers at the
maiden MTN Ethics & Fraud Awareness
Workshop held in Accra.
Mr Domelevo, who was the first
among a number of speakers who addressed
participants in the workshop,
also outlined some key measures to
prevent fraud.
A few of the measures include
being forthright with rules on fraud,
implementing rules which has become
the bane of the country, regular procurement
audits, continuous training
of staff and putting in place viable
mechanisms for whistle blowing.
•Mr Daniel Yao Domelevo, Auditor General
He also called on the private sector
to support the public sector to enhance
its operations.
He said, “The private sector is
mostly referred to as the engine of
economic growth but we should remember
the engine cannot operate
without fuel. The public sector is
therefore the fuel which propels the
engine to work.”
“I will therefore call on MTN to dialogue
the public sector to design solutions
that will help curb fraud and
reduce corruption,” he added.
The General Manager for MTN
Business Risk Management, Didier
Sala-Diakanda, said, “From its inception,
MTN has taken the issue of
ethics very seriously and over the years
we have put in a lot of measures to ensure
that Integrity is upheld in business
amongst all staff and at all levels.
“We have therefore put in place the
required policies, guidelines and committees
and staff have constantly been
informed and educated on these policies.
This year, we have decided to extend
the education to you our valued
suppliers.
“As the saying goes, it takes two to
tango and even as we work hard to enforce
our policies internally, we need
to also work with you, our external
partners, to ensure the process is fully
completed.”
Mr Joseph Dogbe, Seniorr Manager,
IT Audit, and Mr Patrick Afari
Snr., Manager Procurement, took turns
to educate participants in MTN’s
Ethics and Fraud management procedures
and Procurement Processes respectively.
Mr Stanley Anum from PwC took
participants through the Red Flags of
Procurement Fraud. Participants were
also taken through the process of
pledging their commitment to abide by
the Ethics and policies of MTN annually
to guarantee continuous business
with MTN.
The MTN Ethics and Fraud
Awareness workshop has been instituted
as an annual event to continually
sensitize vendors and suppliers to the
Ethics and Code of Conduct and to
heighten their awareness of fraud. The
workshop is a practical and effective
initiative to equip vendors and suppliers
in building a frontline defence system
against fraud.
MTN operates with five corporate
values, namely: Leadership, Innovation,
Relationship, Integrity and Can –
Do spirit or attitude.

Do not mind anything that anyone tells you about
yourself —Henry James
NPP sets rules for Natl.
Delegates Conference
BY MUNTALLA INUSAH
muntalla.inusah@dailyheritage.com.gh
THE LEADERSHIP of
the ruling New Patriotic
Party (NPP) has set up
the ground rules for its
National Delegates’
Conference scheduled
for June 15-17, 2018.
The party has, thus, entreated all
prospective candidates vying for national
positions scheduled for Koforidua
in the Eastern Region to
respect the rules of engagement.
The Acting General Secretary of
the party, Mr John Boadu, also warned
prospective candidates who may be
aggrieved during the vetting to exhaust
all internal channels.
He warned that anybody who goes
to court without fulfilling the internal
rules would be barred from the party.
Below is the full statement:
We have invited you here primarily
to spell out the guidelines for the conduct
of the party’s forthcoming National
Annual Delegates Conference
scheduled to come off in Koforidua,
the Eastern Regional Capital from
15th to 17th June, 2018. The conference
shall, among other things, elect
National Officers who would steer the
affairs of the party for the next four
years. This National Annual Delegates
Conference is being held pursuant
to Article 10(2) & (3) of the
Party’s Constitution, which provides
that the National Annual
Delegates Conference be held at
least four (4) weeks after the last
Regional Annual Delegates Conference.
But before we let you into the
details of the National Delegates
Conference, the party wishes to
use this opportunity to join the rest
of the country to commend Isaac
Dogbe on his latest victory which
makes him Ghana's youngest ever
boxing champion after knocking out
Jessie Magdaleno in Philadelphia on
Sunday morning, making him the new
WBO super bantamweight/junior
featherweight titleholder. We encourage
other Ghanaian boxers to take a
cue from his legendary resilience and
win more international laurels for
country.
Response to former president
Mahama and Asiedu Nketiah
The party again wishes to use this
opportunity to respond to some comments
made by ex-president John Mahama
and Asiedu Nketiah over the
week during their so called Unity Walk
in Kumasi. The former President for
instance, is on record to have
slammed President Akufo-Addo and
his government for waging a war
against illegal mining and its debilitating
effects on lives and the environment
particularly our water
bodies and forest reserves.
He also sought to incite
illegal miners against
the government,
suggesting that
that if he became
president tomorrow,
he
wouldn’t
clamp down
on their activities
and
that, he
would protect
their interest.
How
incredulous!
We, in the
NPP, have always
known
that the former
president is such a
desperate politician
who would do anything
for political
power but what
we did not
know is
that,
• Former President John Mahama
his
desperation
has
reached this outlandish
extent. His comment is by far,
the most opportunistic and reckless
comment to have been made by any
former Ghanaian leader. We condemn
this recklessness in no uncertain terms
and call on him to do the honourable
thing.
The NPP also calls on all well
meaning Ghanaians particularly the
Media Coalition Against illegal mining
to join the party in condemning with
all vehemence, this unfortunate comment
from John Mahama which seeks
to erode all the gains that the nation
had
• John Boadu, Acting General Secretary
made in the
fight against
the galamsey
menace on
the altar of
political
expediency.
It is
most
reprehensible,
disgusting,
repugnant
and unbecoming
of a
statesman.
John Mahama
should be the
last person to
comment on issues
of illegal mining having
had the rare opportunity to
govern this country for 8 years
and doing absolutely nothing to fight
the menace of illegal mining which
was destroying the very fabric of the
Ghanaian society.
Fortunately, we now have a caring
president in Nana Addo Dankwa
Akufo-Addo who did not only ban illegal
mining in order to salvage this
country and save innocent lives, but
has also come out with an elaborate
policy document detailing how to permanently
address the menace including
the provision of alternative source
of livelihood for persons hitherto involved
in illegal mining. Government’s
holistic approach to fighting the
galamsey menace has not only received
national applause from all
well meaning Ghanaians but
has also been hailed by the
international community.
We are however not
surprise about the
conduct of the former
president because
that is his
stock in trade.
With such desperation
from
him, it wouldn’t
be surprising if,
tomorrow, we
hear him blaming
President
Akufo-Addo for
the woes of prisoners
and telling
for them he would
ensure their release
if they voted for.
This is certainly not
how we build a nation.
On Asiedu Nketiah,
who also spoke at the event,
where he stated categorically
that the Nana-Addo led NPP government
had legalised homosexuality,
allowing for same sex marriage in the
country, the party would ordinarily
not respond to a character like Asiedu
Nketiah who has reduced an otherwise
serious business of politics to
comic relief. But we are minded to respond
to him because of the position
he holds unfortunately. In doing so,
we wholly associate ourselves with the
befitting response he got from the
Communications Directorate of the
Office of the President in a statement
issued same day.
The statement reads in part,
“Speaking at the NDC's health/unity
walk, on Saturday, 28th April, 2018, in
Kumasi, the NDC General Secretary
is reported to have stated that "Nana
Addo says men will marry men, and
women will marry women." This is
nothing but a baseless and vile fabrication,
by no less a person than the
General Secretary of the leading opposition
party in Ghana. For the
avoidance of doubt, President Akufo-
Addo has NEVER stated anywhere
that, under his presidency, "men will
marry men, and women will marry
women".
Indeed, the President remains focused
on delivering on his mandate,
and improving on the quality of lives
of the Ghanaian people. It will NOT
be under his Presidency that same-sex
marriage will be legalized in Ghana.
We will neither ask for an apology or
retraction from the NDC General
Secretary, who, obviously, is still stuck
in the age of the politics of lies, deceit
and propaganda, which was rejected
decisively by discerning Ghanaians in
the 2016 general elections. We will
rather appeal to Ghanaians to, once
again, ignore the falsehoods of the
NDC, and urge Mr. Asiedu Nketiah to
concentrate his energies on uniting his
divided and discredited party.” There
can’t be a better response to Asiedu
Nketiah's lies.
Overview of regional annual
Delegates
Conferences
The party, as would know, has successfully
held Regional Annual Delegates
Conferences to inter alia, elect
regional executives in all the ten regions
of the country between April
21, to 24, 2018 except for that of
Northern Region which was delayed
for a week. This was to allow for the
remaining constituencies in the
Northern Region that had not held
their constituency delegates conference
to do so. Eventually, the Northern
Regional Annual Delegates
Conference came off on Saturday,
April 28.
On the national scale, it is gratifying
to note that, out of the 275 constituencies
in the country, the NPP
has been able to successfully hold
Constituency Annual Delegates Conferences
in 271 constituencies constituting
98.5%.
Having said that, the party wishes
to use this opportunity to acknowledge
the maturity with which members
of our great party and all
stakeholders approached the conduct
of these annual delegates’ conferences
which started from the polling station
level to electoral area to constituency
and now, regional level. The conferences,
as all would attest to, were
largely successful.
The party also commends the efforts
of the 4-man committee comprising
Sammy Awuku (chairman of
the committee), Evans Nimako (secretary
of the committee) Bob Agbontor
(member) and Gary Nimako, which
was constituted by the national steering
committee to help in the resolution
of the issues in all outstanding
constituencies.
Again, the party wishes to use this
opportunity to congratulate all the
elected regional executives on their
hard fought victory while commending
the unsuccessful candidates for
the productive competition and wishing
them a better luck next time. We
say, a big congratulation especially to
the newly elected regional chairpersons
comprising Anthony Namoo
(Upper East), Thomas Adu Appiah
My court case had no effect
on my brand — Wisa Greid
•Wisa
BY ERICA ARTHUR
BLACK AVENUE
Musik (BAM)
signee, Eugene
Ashie, known in
showbiz as Wisa
Greid, has said his experience
at the Citi FM ‘Decemba
2 Rememba’ concert
in 2015, which landed him in
court, had in no way affected
his brand as an artiste.
The ‘Ekiki Mi’ hit maker,
who has been standing trial
since 2016 for allegedly showing
off his manhood during a
performance on stage at the
Accra International Conference
Centre (AICC), told the
DAILY HERITAGE that
the issue in court was having
no negative effect on his
brand and that he still gets
gigs to perform at events
under his new management,
BAM, owned by D-Black.
He said “There is no way
my case in court has affected
my career; I still perform at
events. The reason why people
haven’t heard of any new
song from my camp is that I
am working on a new album
which I will be releasing
soon. But currently I have released
a new song titled
‘Mama K3 Dada’.”
According to the artiste,
his new song has been
crafted in a manner that will
instantly grab attention
“while moving you off your
feet”.
The song produced by DJ
Breezy is a reminiscent of
some childhood experiences,
when children characterised
themselves as mothers and
fathers while playing. “I wonder
which child didn’t play
the ‘Mama K3 Dada’ role.”
Wisa also cautioned the
youth to stay away from hard
drugs like Tramadol, which is
capable of destroying their
dreams and vision.
He said, “Personally, I do
not know anyone who uses
Tramadol but my advice to
those using it is that they
should refrain from the use
before it gets out of hand.”
‘Mama k3 Dada’ is available
on all music platforms
online.
Shatta Wale, Samini, Stonebwoy,
•Mr Eazi
SHATTA WALE, Samini,
Stonebwoy and other
artistes are nominees for the
2018 Ghana DJ Awards, and
one of the artistes will be
expected to win the coveted
‘DJ Song of the Year’. The
event comes off this Saturday,
May 5, at the Accra International
Conference
Centre at 7p.m.
The ‘DJ Song of
the Year’ award goes
to an artiste whose
song is voted for
by over 200 radio
station, night club,
mobile and general
event DJs as the
most
•Samini
played songs during their set
in the year under review.
The artistes who were
nominated in the category
are Kidi – Odo; Shatta Wale
– Taking Over; Captain
Planet –
• Shatta
Wale
•Stonebwoy
Obi Agye Obi Girl; Kuami
Eugene – Angela; Samini –
My Own; Ebony – Maame
Hwe; Wutah – Bronya;
Stonebwoy – My Name; and
Patapaa – One Corner.
After Shatta Wale had
won the award two consecutive
times, last year, Y FM’s
DJ Vision lifted the award
for his extremely widespread
song ‘Grind’,
which was heard most
at nightclubs, on radio,
at parties and on the
streets in Ghana.
This year the competition
is even keener
as a result of major
promotion by all the
artistes in the DJ Song
Category. So the
big questions
remains
‘Who wins
the DJ
Song of
the Year
at the
Ghana
DJ
2018?’
I'm not romantically involved
with Fella — Mr Eazi
NIGERIAN SINGER, Mr Eazi, has denied
having a romantic relationship with
Yolo actress Fella Makafui before meeting
his girlfriend Temi.
“I’m not involved with Fella romantically.
I’ve never been,” Mr Eazi said as a
reply to a question posed by Delay, a
broadcaster.
The 'Skin Tight' hit maker further denied
dating a popular Ghanaian star as
rumoured, adding that he is a reserved
person.
“Me I just dey live my life, very reserved,”
he added.
Speaking on the Delay Show, Mr Eazi
said he only associates with women he
can connect with.
“Before Temi my ex-girlfriend was
from Eritrea, East Africa, before her my
girlfriend was Nigerian, a nice Igbo girl,
before then when I was in school I was
involved with a Ghanaian girl,” he explained.
Born Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade,
the ‘Pour Me Water’ hit maker on January
22, 2017, shared a photo of the
‘Yolo’ actress Makafui with the words
“Sometimes I wake up and think to myself
why is Makafui so beautiful? Like
she is soo fine! God really is Great
TBH!!”.
His post courted lots of conversations
on social media.
Mr Eazi’s mainstream attention in
Ghana was with the song ‘Bankulize'
produced by DJ Juls and has collaborated
with the likes of Sarkodie, Pappy
Kojo, and Efya.
His other hits include ‘Skin Tight’,
‘Anointing’, ‘Holl Up’ and ‘Shitor’.
Mr Eazi was excluded from the 2016
Ghana Music Awards because he is not
Ghanaian per the definition of the award
scheme.
