Third time lucky for EMLM?

Municipality (EMLM)
earlier this year appointed
the third female executive
mayor, Nokuzola Sisisi Tolashe,
who brings with her vast
political experience and is
eager to better the lives of the
impoverished people in the
municipal area.
Tolashe commenced her
duties on March 3 after former
mayor Lindiwe
Gunuza-Nkwentsha was
removed from office by her
political party for
maladminist ration.
The new mayor’s
appointment came after
lengthy in-fighting in the ANC
and dissatisfaction from
opposition parties.
In an interview on Friday,
Tolashe indicated that the
Costly Komani taxi rank remains vacant

THE multimillion-rand Komani
intermodal taxi rank has been
turned into a place of theft and
vandalism as the windows and
electric cables have been
ripped off and lights broken
while some are using it as a
public toilet and a leisure park.
The rank was supposed to be
operational in 2014, but in April
it remains closed with no
security measures to safeguard
it.
One of the street vendors
who were supposed to benefit
from the project, Vuyelwa Lali,
said it was unhygienic to
prepare food at the temporary
rank.
Security staff apprehend several suspects

asked to remain anonymous,
said, “We are not doing any
business because there is no
central pick-up point. We do not
have a proper place to park.
Commuters also tend to avoid
the muddy rank on rainy days.”
Reynecke said. Response officers

payment plan to Eskom was
rejected. We initially had an
agreement with Eskom to pay
R12-million which they later
said needed to be topped up
with R4-million. We paid the
money and were shocked to
receive a letter informing us
that our payment plan had not
been considered.”
Tolashe said by December
this year, a lot will have changed
for the better and that people
needed to be patient as change
did not happen overnight.
Tolashe, who was born and
bred in Mlungisi, joins EMLM
as the third woman at the
helm after Gunuza-Nkwentsha
and Nozibele Makanda, who
served in the former Lukhanji
Local Municipality.
Commuters take the risk of
being mugged and walk long

reach a temporary taxi rank
near the informal settlement of
Rawutini, in Mlungisi.
Municipal spokesman
Fundile Feketshane said, “We
shall make an announcement
soon”.

February 9 2018) that the taxi
rank was 90% complete in 2014.
It was also reported (“On the
rise,” April 3 2015) that the
project had been allocated
R11-million in the 2015-16
financial year, with R14-million
at the time to be allocated in
the 2016-17 financial year.
Also, response officers on patrol
apprehended a man in possession of a
suspected stolen gas bottle over the
weekend. He was handed over to the
