“The EU is the greatest political and moral union ever conceived. It is not perfect. But it is the unlikely
product of the wars, of realpolitik and the brutality that plagued European history for thousands of
years. It should be cherished.”
“People make Europe and Europe touches lives. Freedom of movement. Freedom of association.
Freedom from tyranny. Only a generation ago these were the standard on the continent. These
things still exist in the world. Being European should mean being a force for good. Britain should be
proud to have helped forge the present situation. Not walk away from it. #itmatterstome”
“Having a holiday home in Spain, and knowing lots of Europeans and have visited most of the
European countries in the last 20 years. I get the impression that the modern Europeans all feel
positive about the E.U. and realise that it is not perfect. What is? ... but I feel that all our
representatives sitting at the same negotiating table can sort out any discrepancies that exist to the
benefit of all Europeans.”
“It matters to me because freedom of movement gave me an education by allowing me to live and
work in EU and non-EU countries and to learn about other cultures, ways of living and to meet
wonderful people and my journey has brought me to live in Spain, an informed decision I took
knowing we were part of the EU and so I sold my flat in England to live here permanently. I do not
see why future generations should be denied the education and adventures that freedom of
movement brings.”
“It matters to me because I am not "the will of the people" I am therefore excluded. First they stole
my winter fuel allowance, now trying to take my EU rights. So be it, broken country, do your deals
with e.g. New Zealand (pop 5M) whilst turning your back on Europe (pop 500M)
Last one out, turn off the lights.”
“It matters to me because I have lived in Spain for 26 years now and this is my home. I have paid
into tho Spanish system and do not want my future to depend on bi-lateral negotiations between 2
sets of no doubt useless politicians. It matters to me as I have friends and family here, could never
go back to live in the UK and consider myself a European.”
“It matters to me because....I have lived my entire adult life as a European, which has given me the
opportunity to work and live on multiple occasions in both France and Spain with absolute freedom.
My life would definitely be poorer for not having been able to do all this. I myself am a child of
parents from different parts of Europe, and back then (for my parents' generation and before) it was
so much harder to do any of these things. And all this we are being asked (sorry, TOLD) to give up
just because a myopic bunch of racist Little Englanders think they're superior to everyone else in
Europe (if not the entire world)? And on this life-changing vote, I was denied the chance to express
my opinion? Those are just some of the reasons why Brexit matters to me.”
“It matters to me less that the UK will take itself into a friendless wilderness than because Leave
voters based their decision upon ignorance and a campaign of misinformation which will deny current
and future generations the opportunities I have been able to so freely enjoy.”
