Supervisor/Student Guidelines and Due Dates for Extended Essay
Students:
It is in your best interest to keep a process journal during the experience. Not only will it make your
reflections stronger, but it will give your supervisors more evidence for their own reflections.
It is your responsibility to meet with your supervisors and add your own reflections
All drafts and outlines will be turned into me. I will then put them in your supervisor’s mailbox.
This will help make sure that there is no miscommunication about transfer of drafts. This will also
help me be able to support the supervisor’s ability to judge the authenticity of the work.
Interim Interview: The IB suggests this reflection after you have “changed course” or had time to
reflect on the process. At this point, you have done some research and writing. The IB would love it
if you could highlight your problems and reflect on that.
Final Interview/Viva Voce: This interview cannot be done until the Final Copy is graded by
supervisor. It is a time to celebrate, reflect, and authenticate. How have you grown through the
process?
Reminder: For all Extended Essay due dates, late work will earn a zero.
Supervisors:
I have already started the supervisor process with each of the students, but now they are
transferring to you.
I will collect the work from the students and turn it in to your mailbox by the end of the day.
You must have two formal interviews with the students. One interview is in the middle of the
process and one is at the very end of the process. For supervisors, you should average 3-5 hours of
work with the student during this process. Therefore, you will need more than the two formal
interviews. However, only the two formal interviews need to be face to face.
You need to grade the FINAL COPY of the draft for a predicted grade that will be submitted to IB.
Prior to that, you may give the students formal feedback on the entire draft once. I recommend
reading the Final Draft and grading it with the rubric.
We will offer support systems and workshops to help with grading and supervising if interested.
Check email for dates.
You are required to write a supervisor’s report. Use the Viva Voce interview to help with the
reflections on your student. Also, you will be required to authenticate the final copy at this time.
